This year I made li'l conversation-heart cakes for Valentine's Day -- red velvet cake with cinnamon frosting. I saw the recipe on Martha Stewart's daytime show; often her recipes don't work as well as I'd like them to. (Maybe it is because I don't have an army of domestic soldiers behind the scenes.)

I was very pleased with these, though.

This is the house we put an offer in on Tuesday and they countered with an acceptable number the next day so we bought a house! Escrow opened on Wednesday. And now the paperwork and inspections begin!

Finally a good spot to hang our art!

We are in the process of buying our very first home! It's the first floor of a renovated yellow Victorian built in 1926. It's in Salem, MA and is truly double the size of our current space. Who wants to come to our first party?

Our new fancy, fancy hardware for our claw-foot tub is apparently Model No. P. 155. But someone at Strom Plumbing by Sign of the Crab has very blocky handwriting, and it looks a little like "PISS" to me. Actually, Mom pointed it out first, so you can see how mature she is.

We bought our first home, and we're moving this week. It's in South Buffalo Near Tifft and South Park, All Natural Woodwork that has never been painted, 4 bedroom, full attic and basement, Nice Yard 36' x 140' lot, driveway, garage, 2 fireplaces, 1.5 bathrooms, leaded glass, pocket doors that slide easily, front porch, good Roof, efficient Furnace, and Water heater, dry basement, well insulated. This place is a steal, we got it for $46,000.

We like the location a lot too, The house is on Altruria St. which is a very well kept street, all single family homes, mostly owner occupied, lots of gardens and pride of ownership. Plus you're in the center of everything, the Botanical Gardens, the Beach, Tifft Nature Preserve, Caz Park, the Buffalo River, all of it is within a 20min walk. We like canoeing, and parks, that's what we spend our summers doing, so this will be great for us, though we will miss the restaurants around Elmwood. But we think it's a good trade off.

In the greater Phoenix area, Arcadia AZ real estate is regarded as a rare treasure, something that must be pounced on any time an opportunity arises. Rumors of upcoming listings persist in hushed whispers, and those in search of Arcadia homes prepare to throw their hat into the ring like an ...

Freeze it! I freeze the pesto in ice cube trays, then pop them out and store them in plastic freezer bags until use. Then, you can just reach for however many cubes you need for whatever application. Such a treat in dark, frigid January.

This is the second year in a row that I've cooked Thanksgiving dinner (with the exception of the salad and soup, which Sister made, and the stuffing, which is Mom's amazing recipe. Mom also made the pies, though that was supposed to be Dad's job).

Just like last year, I used Alton Brown's method of brining and roasting the turkey. And just like last year, it was amazingly moist and delicious. Oh, happy, happy Thanksgiving.

We have all these cute little cupboards in our hallway. The perfect hiding place for Gemma. :)

If you remember from previous shots, this rooms was painted white with seafoam green carpet. I went for sort of a ivory with white rugs. I had the blue furniture and tables from my previous apartment. This is sort of my reading, chill room. Great for reading the Sunday paper in the morning - lots of light!

You can't tell, but that snow is thigh-high.

This weekend's blizzard made my backyard tree look so beautiful. I love the colored lights on the snow-covered branches.

Seriously.

(Not that that's a bad thing. Just an astute observation.)

The cake I made for Mom and Dad said "STUCK WITH ME." Because, you know, they are. And I'm a pain in the ass -- no picnic for them.

Perhaps that's why they got all vulgar on my beloved handbaked pastry.
