This is my Filbert gateau with praline buttercream, shot with my Nikon N70, which makes the photo look at least 40 years old. Love it.

My second photo for the day but it had to be done - after several days of negotiations, today our offer was accepted!
We are thrilled, thrilled, thrilled: we absolutely love living here so knowing that this will be Our Home very soon is just such exciting news. (Those that don't know, we rent the house and discovered it was going on the market so frantically got a mortgage agreement in principal etc.)
We had pink fizz to celebrate.
As evidenced by the holiday accoutrement in her home. Foreground: menorah; background: Christmas tree.

Smokers - look at what you're doing to your walls. The couple that was last in the house lived there for 15 years...
The running crap is what soaked off the wallpaper boarder when I hosed it with TSP. I'm sure some of that crap is glue, but you'd better believe much of it is indeed reside from smoking.

Very yummy, and totally different from the magnificent salsa of Chris O'MotherfuckingHare.

She is very focused on her treat, which I call her "nighttime crunchers." It's our little routine: she gets one nighttime cruncher when she successfully follows me up to the bedroom without attempting to consume any shoes or anything else she might find along the way. Then she gets another one when she refrains from going into my closet and absconding with my slippers. Then she gets a third one when she avoids stealing and eating tissues right out of the Kleenex box.

This beautiful pink tulip bloomed for several years in a very unexpected place: up through the gravel next to the driveway of my old landlady's house. I anticipated its bloom each Spring, and loved watching it grow and open -- because there was such beauty in such an unlikely setting, because I knew that nobody else took the time to notice it, because I enjoyed wondering how it got there, so far from the other tulips.
Then, my landlady passed away in 2005 and I moved. But one day, not long after the move, I took a shovel and snuck back over there to dig up the bulb. Nobody else would ever enjoy this flower again if I didn't. I replanted the bulb in my parents' back yard and, sure enough, it blossomed.
I continue to enjoy this tulip for what it is, and also because it reminds me of Alice.

Alton Brown's recipe. Very delicious, but the larger chunks of candy cane melted into a scalding-hot pink sugar pool. Which was yummy, but messed with the consistency of the cookie. Next time I'll crush the candy cane into much finer bits.
Meanwhile, "Scalding-Hot Pink Sugar Pool" is also the name of one of Prince's lesser-known proteges.
