In India, we waver our hand above the fire and then touch our hand. It is the fire's blessing. It is a ritual.
4 O'clock alarm this morning for a failed attempt to photograph Cray Gill Falls. When we got there there wasn't any water, probably due to this hot spell we are currently having here in the UK. So pulled out the map and we decided on Malham Cove in the Yorkshire dales. It was our first time so the task for the day was to have a good hike and see if there were any shots to be had along the way. The hike was great in the 26.5 deg c heat! really enjoyed it and i think we will definitely return. This was my first ever attempt at a panorama on the top of the cove (loads of sketchy steps to climb to get to the top), its 7 shots bracketed 2 stops either side (3 shots for each photo merged in lightroom to give 7 individual HDR's) then merged to make the panorama . So you could say its essentially 21 photos? Either way i'm happy with my first attempt and cant wait to try more.

I am starting to explore taking some shots of the night sky. This is just a test. Any pointers gladly accepted !!

I am back! I have returned from my flickr hiatus and I bring to you my first ever attempt at capturing the term I loathe while photographing Lake Union in Seattle at night. Beyond just the trails of light, the Hollywood Dots do give the water scene a surreal quality. Thanks for all your comments while I was away and here we go full force. Enjoy!

My first try at street photography! and I saw these little ones running towards each other from various directions - I thought they were playing! there weren't ...... it was so lovely to watch them being thrilled to see each other and to unite their love once again. I couldn't decide which one to post ---- and perhaps they all link together!!
Please Note!
If anyone sees their photo and of their children and are not happy to have their photo posted publicly - please do get in touch via my email and I will remove them immediately. Thank you - Kit.
Please don't be too picky. I was just so bored at home and tried to practice something different. I had never done any portraits before, it was dark and I have really low self esteem.
I was out taking pictures in the backyard after midnight after all the neighbours turned all their yard lights out and it was nicely dark. Not much illumination from neighbouring houses in the early wee hours and no sign of the Moon either. So I thought I would have a go and see if I could get the Milky way.
Now I was unable to see this with the naked eye. I think outside of Sydney more might be visible.
And also sharper with a better lens. Anyway this is my attempt after going outside in the cold and damp at night.
I imagine its very difficult if you are there long to stop the damp fogging up the lenses. I did not stay out that long.
To me its pretty cool that we are on the outer limb of a great big spiral arm of a whirling spiral and that you can just make it out using photography that the great mass of the milky way is above us in the sky at night.
It's pretty awesome if you think about it.
My mum has got a gift and can find four leaf clovers anytime. Seriously. I unfortunately don't share her gift.
I made baguettes from scratch today for the first time. My French husband is impressed and very happy!

This Nativity Scene, at the Plaza is my first attempt at night photography that I am willing to show others.
...that you go early to find yourself a good spot, and wait and wait and wait, and then it starts to pour rain the second the fireworks actually start.
...and then you miss every single shot. awesome.
First attemt on catching the Milky way.

I'm trying to avoid too much post processing of my photos, but seems like everyone's doing texture so I'm giving it a try... just to see if I'm missing out on anything. Not much creativity to this other than a double overlay application. I'm indifference about the results... Any tips on how to make this more interesting?

First Attempt with my new telephoto lens to get a detailed image of the moon, turned out pretty good, but will try again on a full moon night
Went out and attempted to get some of last nights meteors and failed...so instead I made my first attempt at a star trail shot. I'm happy.

(My first attempt shooting a kingfisher catching its prey) Caught this Stork-billed Kingfisher
emerging from the water surface with his precious catch after a high speed dive into the pond.
Eye-lid fully shut to protect against water impact.
The king just managed to grip the fish by its Ventral fin and safely brought it back to its perch for a nice fresh meal.

After learning a bit from a friend, Anthony, the other day on how to control shutter speeds, what they do.. and how they work. I decided to give light painting a try. This was my very first attempt. To me this looks like an ass, with rays of sunshine pouring from it instead of a heart haha. I wanted to share my first one though so I can look back later and say.. mannn I sucked :) I tried writing my name but as you can see my drawing isn't the best... I'm just glad this isn't a stick man light painting -wink-!
p.s. Thanks Anthony for teaching me about these things. I know this wasn't the idea you were trying to get across to me but we both know I tend to wonder off at times. :)
Actually I was going to show you some more of my holiday pictures but then I got carried away with my new toy: an extension tube set for my camera. Hopefully with it I will shoot macro without having to buy the expensive lens (at least that is what they tell me). One thing I can already say - it is fun.
My first night shot attempt with this camera.
This photo was taken from my balcony, over the roof of the club (see note). On this first attempt I used the maximum zoom capability of the camera.

Essa foi minha primeira tentativa de foto noturna com essa câmera, por absoluta falta de tempo até então...
Essa foto foi tirada da minha varanda sobre o telhado de um clube (veja nota). Nesta tentativa usei o zoom máximo da câmera.
I make a point of only posting a picture a day... usually. I find it makes me more picky on what I post, and ergo what I shoot..
I say usually, because today I am posting three. What's the special occasion you ask? Well, I built my first light box and finally got a chance to realise something I have been planning for some days now!
I once read an article (one of many I might add..) on 'how to save money', or was it 'how to budget'.. I forget.. point is, one of the clever tips it gave was to "freeze your credit card" so that if you wished to purchase something, you would first have to wait a few hours while your credit card melted, and during this time you would mull over your decision, thereby preventing impulse purchases... Seeing as credit card debt is today a hotter issue than ever (pardon the pun), I thought up this little shoot.
Constructive criticism is most welcome! Thank you :)

Out last evening to try for my first time...star trails...thanks to Bea for giving some guidance on how to do this. At times light clouds would move through so I think this may be why some of the trails are light or seemingly missing and the streak is a plane or 2 going throught the image...some of the light on the statue was from the police who stopped by to see what we were doing...I sheepishly asked him to turn his lights off...LOL... and he very kindly did!
