We're decending into Tekarra Valley from the ridge along Amber Mountain on the Skyline Trail. An hour earlier these peaks had no trace of snow. A brief flurry and driving winds timed its arrival perfectly with our arrival at this spectacular section of the Skyline Trail. It stopped almost as quickly as it arrived, revealing the gift it left behind.

Great Falls before sun-up. There was just enough light to catch the new snow dusting the trees -- almost left the scene with frostbite, waiting for the sun to rise.

Believer Forewarned of Sorrow

THESE things I have spoken unto you, that in

me ye might have peace. In the world ye

shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I

have overcome the world. John 16:33

The path of sorrow, and that path alone,

Leads to the land where sorrow is unknown,

No traveler e'er reached that bless'd abode,

Who found not thorns and briars in his road.

Feeling nostalgic today, and this one has a very special place in my heart. I miss it quite a bit!

Britain’s first daily newspaper was published in London on 11 March 1702 in somewhat unusual circumstances: it was produced by a man who turned out to be a woman; it carried no news about England, only from abroad; and it didn’t offer any opinions, leaving its readers to make up their own minds.

The paper was called the Daily Courant and was produced at a house near the King’s Arms inn near Fleet Bridge by Elizabeth Mallet, who found it a good career move to pretend it was all done by a man. Women weren’t supposed to do that sort of thing in those days, although, curiously, the only paper which also claimed, less successfully, to be Britain’s first – the Norwich Post – was also run for a while by a woman called Elizabeth – Elizabeth Burges.

Elizabeth Mallet’s journal consisted of two pages, with foreign news on the front and advertisements on the back. It is not clear why she chose to report only foreign news, but it may have been that it was considerably cheaper than paying for home news. She was way ahead of her time in presuming that her readers had “sense enough to make reflections for themselves“. Not many papers today would follow that approach.

After allowing the CN to reach Humboldt junction and release their track warrant, the Mineral Range dispatcher sent their own train on its way west, giving me my first good look at the freshly repainted GP9 being used for road power. 1323 and 1345 bring a train of empties towards Humboldt mill.

We are trying to do some clothing for our girls and today we made two skirts for our MNF's ^^ The model was Gaia, our Juri08 although this is not her style... hehe We are so happy! Wiii!

First light at the pier when I arrived at the beach this morning. You can really see just how low the tide was, creating some lovely lines in the sand along with the awesome reflections. This was taken using a 25 second exposure to get the movement in the clouds.
