As you may have noticed, the number of wildlife photographs appearing in my photostream is increasing. Although I have been interested in the weird and wonderful world of wildlife for a long time it is only recently that I have taken seriously to photographing them. I am finding it so fascinating that I am giving more time to it than other forms of photography. So, I apologise to those who prefer to see my pictures of towns, villages, curiosities and other things. I will continue to post these types of pictures but not as often as I used to do. I hope that you will bear with me.
a first for me , they flew in while I was sitting having a cup of coffee and watching the sea go in and out. very restful!

Kowal bezskrzydły (Pyrrhocoris apterus) – gatunek pluskwiaka z rodziny kowalowatych (Pyrrhocoridae). Osiąga długość ok. 1 cm. Na odwłoku charakterystyczny czerwono-czarny wzór. U kowali bezskrzydłych występuje zjawisko polimorfizmu objawiające się silnym uwstecznieniem tylnych skrzydeł u części osobników. Pospolity w Polsce, często pojawia się w dużych gromadach u podstawy pni drzew liściastych, szczególnie lipy.
Kopulacja trwa długo – często ponad 12 godzin, niekiedy do nawet 7 dni[1].
