schöner finde ich allerdings dieses hier ;-)
A little insect, about 10-15mm long, very common in SW France on sunny days. I have never seen one fly, so they probably can't. The French call them "gendarmes" because like the police, you see them more on sunny days, but I would like to know their proper name so I can submit a photo to EOL.org if possible. Thanks!

There was a fire set in a minivan that was parked in between the silver Mazda and dark blue Jetta. The van was taken away by the arson unit for further investigation.

Un gendarme en faction sur ma terrasse en teck.... et comme pour un instant il a bien voulu... ne pas bouger (peu évident par certaines températures) j'ai au moins (enfin) une belle vue de la peau de sa tête--- quelque part je me dis "tiens, le mec qui a fait le film atomic circus il a pô dû chercher loin certaines inspirations..... A firebug on my terrace. He was so friendly and stopped for a while so finally I have a clear shot of its leather-like face. And a scary eye :-) OMG i'm gonna have some trouble to fall asleep after this one.

These amazingly beautiful vreatures are called firebugs. For some reason they decided they love our garden. For some other reason they cannot live alone, they have to have at least a hundred of their friends around to feel safe.
