A firebug crossed my path on my way home from photographing birds. The lens, a Tamron 150-600mm, would not normally be my first choice for this photo model, but it was the only one I had with me. It still gave me a picture of this colorful insect.

The firebug, Pyrrhocoris apterus, is a common insect of the family Pyrrhocoridae. Easily recognizable due to its striking red and black coloration, it is distributed throughout the Palaearctic from the Atlantic coast of Europe to northwest China.

La chinche de la malva arbórea (Pyrrhocoris apterus), también conocido como zapatero o San Antonio, es un insecto común de la familia de los pirrocóridos.

Dentro de la misma especie existen ejemplares con distintos colores. El color no identifica el sexo

10-X-08 Estos pequeños y escurridizos chinches rojos con soles negros sobre las alas se llaman Chinches de Fuego o Pyrrhocoris apterus (Hemiptera: Pyrrhocoridae). Son abundantes al Jardinet de l'Om...Generalmente se les encuentra por debajo de los troncos y las piedras, pero este otoño les ha dado por vivir sobre la Gardenia...A ver si los encontrais!
