The thing thats so good about the Firebug extension, is not just that it combines all the useful inspection tools - DOM Inspector, View Source, Javascript console etc into one place, but that its an extension that HAS A DECENT MAC THEME FOR IT. Huzzah!

So many extensions are great, but look overly PC-esque on OS X, but not this. This has attention to detail that floats my boat, as well as being so useful.

Ack! Browser decisions are so hard these days...

Murgantia histrionica goes by a few common names ; derived mostly from the variegated color pattern and irregular markings on its back, such as "Calico Back", "Calico Bug", "Fire Bug", and more commonly, the "Harlequin Bug". Harlequin bugs are native to Mexico and Central America, and are an invasive species in North America, having been first detected in Texas in 1864. They will suck the sap of cruciferous plants, causing the plants to wilt and die :(

This is a European Firebug (Pyrrocohoris apterus), native to most of Europe and Asia. In 2015, a small population of firebugs appeared here in northern Utah, it is the only known population of European Firebugs in the entire western hemisphere. As they begin to spread, biologists here have been able to track their dispersal patterns as their range has expanded into Salt Lake City, Ogden, Sandy, and even Tooele. This population is an excellent example of a founding population, where a small number of individuals are isolated from their parent population, which puts them on a potentially different genetic trajectory than the parent population, and could cause genetic drift because there were probably only a few individuals who were transported from Europe to the USA, and there's no way to know whether the genetic traits they had were a diverse representation of the parent population in Europe or not. But regardless, the entire population of Firebugs here in Utah are their descendants and can only inherit those traits. Over time, this may cause these two separated populations to evolve different traits, or even become separate species eventually.

Taken on March 13th 2020 in Ogden, UT.
