There comes a point in everyone’s life where they begin to doubt whether they believe in Father Christmas. For The Dirt, The FiREBUGS and The Deadly Winters that day is yet to come……. On Thursday 22nd of December they invite you to the Voodoo Rooms to believe in Father Christmas as well.
Expect the gothic country of The Dirt to be top of your Christmas list, the beautiful harmonies and wandering arrangements of The FiREBUGS to put some holly on your ivy and the stories and soaring melodies of The Deadly Winters to fill your stockings. Each will also bring you a festive tune to ensure that it won’t be a silent night.
So come and hear a great night of Scottish Americana and folk-rock with a cockle-warming festive twist.

The firebug, Pyrrhocoris apterus, is a common insect of the family Pyrrhocoridae. Firebugs generally mate in April and May. Their diet consists primarily of seeds from lime trees and mallows.
They can be seen in tandem formation when mating which can take from 12 hours up to 7 days. The long period of copulating is probably used by the males as a form of ejaculate-guarding under high competition with other males.

The fire is out in this photo, but it was very close to my house, kids playing with fire in the paddock.
Copula of firebugs; ♂: smaller, red/black; ♀: bigger, white/black (sexual dimorphism),
found mating and feeding (predator) on a freshly burned part of the jungle to serve for growing sweet potatoes and beans.
The female has been seen piercing little beetles (www.flickr.com/photos/gbohne/4966431000/),
hence this firebug should be considered a predator and a potential agent for biological pest control!

Another crap-creature. Not sure what this is. A firebug? A poor sod with some parasitic squid attached to its brain?

Pyrrhocoris apterus - Gendarme ou Pyrrhocore (larves) - The Firebug - FRANCE - Bretagne
Le nom gendarme vient du fait que les couleurs et motifs rappellent les habits rouge et noir des gendarmes à partir de la fin du xviie siècle. C'est pour les mêmes raisons que le pyrrhocore est également appelé Soldat ou Suisse
L'accouplement a lieu principalement au début du printemps et dure fréquemment entre 12 heures et 7 jours, ce qui est probablement un moyen pour les mâles d'empêcher la compétition avec d'autres mâles.
