In May of 2013 a fire ravaged the 23rd and 24th floors of the Liselotte Salonin Hotel. The cause of the fire was never determined. Twelve people and two poodles died in the conflagration. As the occupants fled to safety on the streets outside the facility a young girl was seen observing the firefighters and quietly repeating "Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death Amen." She vanished shortly thereafter and has never been identified.
Pyrrhocoridae is a family of insects with more than 300 species world-wide. A common species in parts of Europe is the firebug. They are part of the order Hemiptera which are also known as the 'true bugs'. A few are important crop pests. They are called cotton stainers because their red bodies get crushed along with the cotton they eat when it is harvested, and these stains are difficult to remove. Their feeding mechanism also cuts the fibres and hence affects the growth of the cotton ball. They caused massive problems in the United States during the industrial revolution.

Two firebugs (Pyrrhocoris apterus) mating - something they either enjoy very much or need serious pointers on effectiveness about from most any other species as these guys can go at it for hours - and sometimes more. I have no idea who decides who has to walk backwards but they actually get around coupled together like this.
I think you can easily find the firebug here. He ran randomly through my picture and now, I mean, he is a nice counterpart to the red on the upper left side.
But also it could be, that I'm only too slow for this world... ;-)
The firebugs love the malva sylvestris.
In the evening they are with many.
Eating?
Looking for a place to spend the night?
Or perhaps playing hide and seek?
It's always a challenge to get 2 pair of eyes in focus in one shot.
So had these for a while now and I wanted to show them to you guys that's it

I went to the comic book store yesterday and picked up some cool comics, Future State: The Flash 2nd & last issue, Future State: Nightwing, & the first 3 issues of Future State: The Next Batman. I'm really excited that my local comic book store has a sale for $1.50 for every new comic on the rack through Feb. 12th-Feb. 14th. I also got LEGO 71718 NINJAGO Wu's Battle Dragon which I'll probably be showcasing my dresser again after adding the dragon, anyways let's get to it,...

Firebug, November 2007.
Dear Flickr friends, some of you were asking... Yes, this is a real animal! It is a firebug ("Feuerwanze" in German).
The firebug is a common insect of the family Pyrrhocoridae. Easily recognizable due to its striking red and black coloration.
Firebugs generally mate in April and May. Their diet consists primarily of seeds from lime trees and mallows. They can often be found in groups near the base of lime tree trunks, on the sunny side.
The common firebug (Pyrrhocoris apterus) is frequently found in our latitudes. These visually striking pests usually live in larger groups close together and on top of each other. I have found it particularly fascinating since childhood when two specimens were chained together with their hind parts, which is nothing other than the sexual act, as I learned. And when they all seem to do it at the same time, it must then be something like group sex. Since they don't cause any noticeable damage to my garden (they feed on oily seeds) I don't see any reason to take action against them.
Firebugs (Pyrrhocoris apterus) seen in tandem formation when mating which can take from 12 hours up to 7 days.

I went exploring today. I've been wanting to go to this abandoned house for a long time and I figured that today was as good as any and I cycled (30km round trip!) just to check it out. At first I was worried that I would get yelled at or possibly even fall through the floor but those fears were dropped as soon as I realized that entire ceiling was moving and filled with bats!!! Needless to say I didn't stay in there as long as I had hoped but I did have fun in my short time there.
The building is from the gold-rush era that swept through the Rocky Mountains. There is a historic ghost town literally 200 metres behind this house but it was too busy to try and shoot photos in. I wish I knew more about the history behind this house but I suppose just being inside is the best I can get.
The post-processing was inspired by forest fires which usually taunt and tarnish the mountains here, but thankfully have been relatively silent.
