In recent years, wildfires have devastated large areas of Mesa Verde National Monument. I believe that the major cliff dwellings were untouched.

A quick Monday re-visit to my favourite local abandonment to see if its survived another winter. Very little appears to have changed since an arson attack a couple of years ago.

Texture overlay to add a bit of atmosphere to things.

This place is always really quiet and eerie and gives me the creeps - despite 4 or 5 visits I still find it un-nerving.

A Nunnery, local to me, long since vacated by the Sisters. In the interim it was temporary accommodation for immigrants, and during that period suffered a fairly major fire. If such a thing can be fortunate, it was only the Chapel which suffered pretty much terminal damage, and will have to be demolished, whilst the rest of this gorgeous building is in in process of conversion into a school.

Taken with an averagely good lens, on an averagely good day, and submitted to a fair bit of Snapseed tweaking. Not the greatest image, I know, but it was the sort of result I pre-visualised.

The Cathedral of Miranda do Douro, a national monument since 1910 and officially called the Concatedral de Santa Maria Maior, is an important example of the religious architecture of Trás-os-Montes, located on the border with Spain. Its construction, which began on May 24, 1552 and was completed in 1609, has a transitional style between Gothic and Renaissance, also combining Mannerist elements. The building, made of granite, retains its original layout, despite interventions following a fire in the 18th century. The central nave, with cross vaults and elegant stone arcades, is dominated by an imposing gilded altarpiece with scenes from the life of Christ and Franciscan saints, representative of post-Tridentine sacred art. Formerly the cathedral of the diocese created in 1545 by King João III and suppressed in 1780, the Cathedral became co-cathedral of the Diocese of Bragança-Miranda after the episcopal seat was transferred to Bragança in 1770 by decision of Pope Clement XIV. The main altarpiece, framed by a gilded carved structure with fluted pilasters decorated with plant elements, which support a cornice and archivolt with similar decoration, stands out for its richness and detail.

My previous photo here was three months earlier, shot while a litter of Labrador retrievers was being conceived in another part of upstate New York

As I was shooting this photo, those pups were 32 days old -- waddling around, peeing on the carpet and tormenting the mama dog who was sooo ready for her first litter to be weaned.

I hadn’t met them yet, but I’m sure they were a lot cuter than this old factory.

I don't know the history of this place, but the rear obviously had a fire and damage. I did not go inside or even get close enough to look in the windows. From what I could see, it appeared there were still many objects inside. It was very hot that day. Maybe I'll go back sometime.

A shot looking up into the roof area in the Marble Hall in Clandon Park House . Ten years on work is still going on the stabilise the House ans restore what they can . From what I understand it will be restored to a safe environment showing how the great fire has left the building with just one small room that was not badly affected by the fire being restored to the former glory of what the building once was . This has led to some factions wanting the whole building totally restored .

Here is what the N.T. have to say about the future plans --

What a find!

Christmas Treasures has been a staple roadside attraction for generations. Hopefully they will be again some day.

For now, Christmas Treasures is a tale of a former home of seasonal kitsch in the ashes.

This burned out graffiti adorned ruin is in the river north historic industrial area in St. Louis, MO USA. The fire took place about two years ago in what was then an abandoned warehouse. And so it remains. Thanks for having a look inside with me.

The 400-year-old Angel Inn on North Street, Midhurst, burnt to the ground a couple of months ago. As a result, North Street was completely closed to traffic. This has had a disastrous effect on Midhurst businesses as traffic can no longer flow freely through the town Now work is commencing on restoring the Grade II listed building, but many residents feel it would be better to knock it down and get traffic flowing as soon as possible. It's estimated that traffic won't be flowing up and down North Street for another seven weeks.

Twin smokestacks at the Charlestown factory complex in Utica.

The fire-ravaged ruin was demolished several months after I shot this image. Stacks seem to survive a lot of demolitions, but Google street view shows these two are gone.

While out in the Paradiset nature reserve, looking for blue jewel beetles in an area where there had been a forest fire (as they like to lay their eggs in fire damaged trees), I also came across this braconid wasp.

Unfortunately, my photos aren't enough to conclusively identify it, but it could be a female of Doryctes leucogaster or one of the species in the Atanycolus genus.

With most of the bark on the pine trees being charred and black by the fire, the abdomen of this one really stood out there!

In the heart of Copenhagen, the tower of the old Church of St. Nicholas (Nikolaj Kirke) stands as an architectural landmark dating back to the 13th century. Severely damaged by a fire in 1795, the church lost its religious function in 1805, with the sturdy tower being the only surviving original structure. Rebuilt and topped with a neo-baroque spire in the early 20th century, the tower, standing at around 90 meters, served as a lookout post and housed a naval museum and library. Since the mid-1990s, the building has housed the Nikolaj Kunsthal, a contemporary art center that preserves the city's medieval heritage and urban history. The Nikolaj Kunsthal hosts exhibitions by Danish and international artists, focusing on relevant social, political, and cultural themes, challenging the public with innovative artists and perspectives. The tower, with its characteristic red bricks and copper details, remains one of the most recognizable landmarks in the Danish capital.

The heath fire that occured on Thursley back in June destroyed around 150 hectares of valuable habitat made up of heather, gorse and trees. Plus of course lots of specialised wildlife. As you can see here though the heather is already growing through the charred ground once again. So it's good to see that regeneration is begining to take place.

The marquee you can see was the entrance to visit Helios where we were kitted out with our safety gear and given the safety briefing .

Nearer the camera is a small fenced off area , in the middle there is a protective cover to where underneath there is a survey point where surveyors regularly return to to take sightings onto the walls of the building to detect if there are any signs of movement of the structure . This was of interest to me as back in the 1970s I was a surveyor and regularly went to the Houses of Parliament taking measurements to one tenth of a millimetre around The Elizabeth Tower ( Big Ben ) along and down into the multi storey car park underground . A monitoring job of a similar nature .
