A very cool light mural (constantly mutating and changing in a long loop) and the reflecting pool on the Gene Leahy Central Park Mall, which is one of three riverfront parks in Omaha.

UPDATE: This made Explore for March 6, 2026. Thx Flickr. Always an honor.

Flambeau--A burning torch, especially one carried in procession. This was shot from a temple procession, in which the devotees carry the flambeau right in front of the procession followed by ornamented elephants carrying the God or Goddess.

A toasty, cozy fire to warm us all up, on a cold winters day =)

On Sunday afternoon a building which held the Appliance Service Center, A & B Pawn Shop and the Christ Fellowship Worship Center was destroied by a fire. The building which is located on Lowell Road near Cox Road in Ranlo caused traffic to be rerouted and train service to be stopped as firemen from all over the county fought the fire for hours. Here, firefighters retreat from their position on the roof as flames shoot out from the front of the Appliance Service Center.

Gila River Fire-Ethan Fire

June 27, 2008

I was actually on the reservation for this one and got into a little bit of trouble for being there with the State HWY Trooper. He basically told me to 'get lost' or he'd impound my car and confiscate my camera equipment. Nice huh? He deterred me just enough to go home and return the next day. ;-)

(BTW he had a problem with me there taking pictures but not of the Native Americans who were drinking in cars next to me watching the fire...all needing to drive home at some point. The Native Americans were nice and thought I should stay. I wasn't bothering anyone.)

Taken at Betley Bonfire on Bonfire Night a while back. I think that the people blocking the fire makes the fire seem big... Which it was, it was huge!

lo scatto è stato fatto quasi a caso, cercavo l'effetto del fuoco su fondo nero, solo dopo mi sono reso conto che il fuoco aveva preso forma quasi di una rosa in fiamme ed è stato bellissimo.

the shot was made almost at random , looking for the effect of the fire on a black background , until I realized that the fire had almost taken the form of a rose on fire and it was beautiful .

Probably the most popular spot in Valley of Fire State Park. This amazing rock formation lives up to it's name. Viewed from any direction, it appears to be a wave of fire rock.

This fire sky was occurring with winds 35mph with gusts to 50mph.

Taken 24 minutes before sunrise.

Digging through my archives looking for presets and birdie pics. Found this combination that gives the most neutral color and details.

Thank you for viewing, favourites n your kind comments. Most appreciated. Have a beautiful day my friends.

PCA294 - Fire

Built a small fire in the backyard and then tossed in a old book I found in a dumpster. Upped the clarity and the shadows a bit. Cropped slightly. I took many shots of the book during its conversion into heat and light. I liked this one because of the way it morphed into some other entity before falling into ash.

The Fire Wave rock formation in Valley of Fire, Nevada State Park. I've been there a few times now, and each time I have come away with a good shot. Really beautiful place to visit, and only an hour or so outside of Vegas. This formation known as the Fire Wave is probably the most famous thing to see in the park, and I wanted to photograph it the first time I came here. But while exploring the park, I found a lot of other things that interested me and I think are even better compositions than this wave. Hopefully I will be posting them soon. Enjoy on black background.

Yesterday from I25. Fire at La Joya. Taken from 5 miles away. Fortunately, overnight it has been contained. 300 acres (1/2 sq. mile) burned. So far the reason for the fire unknown.

Sunset lighting up the Horsetail Waterfall on El Capitan in Yosemite National Park.

El Capitan is a 3,000 foot tall vertical rock formation in Yosemite National Park. Every year in February the setting sun will line up with the Horsetail Falls giving everyone quite the show, making it appear as if the water is liquid fire coming over the cliff face.

Some people have coined this phenomenon "Firefalls", unfortunately this name has a bad connotation with a past event in Yosemite Valley, The Yosemite Firefall was a summer time event that began in 1872 and continued for almost a century, in which burning hot embers were spilled from the top of Glacier Point in Yosemite National Park to the valley 3,000 feet (900 m) below. From a distance it appeared as a glowing waterfall. This event no longer happens, finally ending in 1968.

The current show is a natural phenomenon and is dependent on a couple of details. If it is a dry year and not enough water is coming over the falls at this time, no show. If a clouds roll in to the area and block the sun light, no show. The night before I took this photo it was snowing right around sunset, and even though it got close to giving us the effect that everyone was looking for, it did not happen.

So every day is different, you never know what you are going to get when you go there.
