A fingerpost (sometimes referred to as a guide post) is a traditional type of sign post primarily used in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland,[1] consisting of a post with one or more arms, known as fingers, pointing in the direction of travel to places named on the fingers. The posts have traditionally been made from cast iron or wood, with poles painted in black, white or grey and fingers with black letters on a white background, often including distance information in miles. In most cases, they are used to give guidance for road users, but examples also exist on the canal network, for instance. They are also used to mark the beginning of a footpath, bridleway, or similar public path..

6/9 of the series

Created for the movie Magnum Opus which is the story of an ex-marine turned artist and cryptographer. I was tasked with making his series.

Private Sattler played by Dustin Ingram was the main antagonist. A soldier turned evil and who took the fingers of his kills as trophies.

It was the first day of production out at Blue Cloud Ranch www.bluecloud.com which was our location to stage the Afghanistan scenes. We only had one day.

One very long day.

I had to create his necklace of fingers which for some reason they decided not to show because it gave his intentions away. Or something. Too bad because I was quite proud of it. I only had a few minutes to get the shot on a single roll of 120 film. It had to work because the actor was wrapped just after it.

BACKGROUND

___________

Six years ago I was asked to create a nine piece series for the film Magnum Opus.

The concept of the film sounded intriguing - An ex-marine and war photographer saw some terrible things go down in Afghanistan, retired to become an artist (and cryptologist) and paint a series of works where he would secretly encode the narrative into the paintings themselves. Kind of like pulling an Edward Snowden.

And I thought this was awesome.

In reading the script I was confused as to how the main character's art technique was exactly like mine and the director's response (who was a friend and collector of mine) said, "Well, we based the main character on you."

My daughter loves to finger paint, she is only about 5-6 months old in this picture and shorttly after this was shot she crawled away leaving a trail of paint all the way through the kitchen and down the hall. This photo was recently published in a book called Capture Lane County. A great idea from The Register Gaurd, hope they have another book this year! :)

I keep looking at this shot over and over so I guess it's a good one. My son has his own flickr page with thousands of pictures, once in a blue moon I like to share a good one.

Second piece for my protesting against fish fingers project.

Thought I'd keep this simple, no brushes used, just straight up illustrating.

Did you ever cross your fingers so tightly, it felt as though they would disappear in a puff of smoke? Some days, I do.

Wishing days off work would last forever. Needing more time for the creative adventures in this lifetime. Running out of smoke. Discovering what matters. Loving the journey. All those things ... and more. xo I hope your day is a sweet and fulfilled one.

The sand painting started off with Soft Lips Finger Tips and then lost the 's' at the end of lips. A quick rethink resulted in Soft Finger Tips, which was quickly changed to the above. After further internal debate the Sandman reduced it to Finger Tips and finally Finger Tip.

Luckily for me, in the above picture, the the nymph appears to be stroking the artist with her finger tips.

for Macro Monday's theme: "contraption"

I don't know about you but I always end up shredding more fingers on such contraptions than what they were actually designed for! HMM!

Throwback to when this was cool. :D

for some people, finger pointing at others for all the wrong is easier rather than helping each other I guess. there is saying “its always the ones with the dirty hands pointing the fingers”

I keep my fingers crossed, ;)

Nein, es ist natürlich KEIN Finger. Das ist der obere Teil des Rohrkolben, aber gefroren, das stimmt. _ No, it´s certainly not a finger. It´s the upper part of a bulrush (cattail), but it is frozen, that´s true.

Now that Spring is just around the corner... I think the time has come to blow out the cobwebs from my mind. Reflect upon what needs to be done in the coming months now that there's a chance a breeze has caught my sails and might be taking me in the right direction after a year floating around in the doldrums.
