Thought I would post something a bit different to my usual plant bokeh shots! Baby fingers belong to my newest grandchild. She is absolutely gorgeous - not that I am biased of course!

At the Five Finger Rapids four islands divide the Yukon River into five narrow channels. The rapids were a common obstacle for gold seekers during the Klondike Gold Rush. It is the only stretch of whitewater on the 715 km (444 miles) canoe trip between Whitehorse and Dawson City, the route of the annual Yukon River Quest canoe race. The channel at the bottom right is the recommended way through the rapids. It was used by sternwheelers during the gold rush. Drone panorama from 5 vertical photos.

Hopefully not "before the storm". It was a nice peaceful morning, and I would have felt "Catholic guilt"y if I didn't take a few minutes to shoot. Keeping fingers crossed for calm weather at least through the upcoming holiday.

Another shot from my wander in the woods during the week . So many compositions everywhere you look here , this one I kept wide to include the tree in the background with the base all covered in moss . It`s very boggy everywhere, you do find yourself sinking in some places with a lot of water underneath the carpet of leaves, I did encounter some Deer but they did not like my presence and stormed off before I realised they were there. .

What a thrill to actually view the rapids that I have read about in so many gold rush books. The rapids are a little more gentle these days due to widening and dredging - but are still very dangerous to those who are inexperienced, just as so many miners were back in the late 1800's.

**During the 1898 Klondike Gold Rush, thousands of prospectors navigated their homemade boats and rafts 1300 kilometers' (800 miles) from Bennett Lake to Dawson City. Five Finger Rapid was a major obstacle along the route and more than a few stampeders ended up in the water after choosing the wrong channel. The Five Finger Rapids is mentioned in Jack London's novel; The Call of the Wild. It's a good read for young and old alike.

A bad snapshot made better by the fact that two people are pointing at my lens flare...

This is another photo I took of the fleeting sunrise we had this morning. I hope this doesn't mean we're in for some really bad weather.

I love the way these leaves flutter like fingers waving. 20171224BullCreekDxoLr7
