Started a new photo course (yay) and first assignment to use fill in flash to capture detail in a shadowed area. Above using the flash, below NO flash, No detail.

I tried to use the fill card to make the lighting create good a good shadow on the potatoes. But I don't think it worked out to my advantage. This is a concept I'm still struggling to grasp with photography at the moment and hopefully will get better as time goes on.

This photo fills requirement 4. For this photo, I asked the subject to do a lateral movement. The reason why this photo is portrait is because I wanted to capture the full body of the subject, but the room was rather small and the 35 mm meant a heavy crop. I used the burst mode on my camera to take a lot of photos, then I choose 3 photos to piece together. The reason I decided to use these 3 photos is because there is a variety in the movement with the arms and the legs. Naturally, this movement meant it was a paint to edit together. I used Photoshop to put each body on top of each other with layers and the erase tool with a feather of 70%. My settings were used with shutter priority so I could get a crisp image, with an f/stop of 1.8 and ISO of 800 to get a good exposure in the photo.

This was my attempt to try Shutter Sisters fill in flash challenge. Somehow I talked Sarah into helping me once again.

Make sure you have the disc stabilized in the bottom of the shot glass well enough that the wick stands up on its own. Pour in the oil so that there is about a 1/4 inch of wick above the oil. The higher the level, the shorter the flame. Or so I hear.
