Elytra was a responsive shelter; new components of the structure were built on-site.

The pavilion tested a possible future for architectural and engineering design, exploring how new robotics technologies might transform how buildings are designed and built. The design drew on research into lightweight construction principles found in nature. It is inspired by the filament structures of the shells of flying beetles, known as elytra.

Made of glass and carbon fibre, each component of the canopy was produced using a robotic winding technique developed by the designers. Unlike other fabrication methods, this does not require moulds and can produce an infinite variety of spun shapes, while reducing waste to a minimum.

It printed, the look is not the best, it has strings of filament on several places where it not should be any. I tried Slic3r and the settings is not optimal...

I found a little old headlight bulb in the glove box from the neighbor's old car. Looked like an ancient artifact that everyone should be alarmed about.

Torch light bulb filament

 

Bascily it is just a palce thast can hold the coil of filament and spin around.

Really handy clips for holding the end f the Filament. You need these if you have multiple spools and change colors often.

Filament drive, attached to the stepper motor.

I didn't even mean to take this particular shot. It was an out-take, but I liked it best of all. It has a weird look to it, almost alien like as it is out of focus.

Always looking for things to shoot. This is a macro shot of the filament of a cool bulb whilst on lockdown.
