The shadows(or not) cast by the filament of a 500w blub from an old slide projector I repaired for a friend.

This weeks challenge was to take a photo of an everyday item from your home in a way that we might not all recognise what it is. This is a filament in a light bulb, I smashed the glass off and used all of my extension tubes with the 50mm.

Day 268/365.

Blue bulb's days are numbered.

No light without darkness;

No fire without heat;

No joy without sadness;

No love without loss.

No idea without a lightbulb! (courtesy of Light Stalker)

Oh, what sweet duplicity.

Tu es ma flamme, dans tout ce froid

Un soleil ne peut t'éclipser

Longue est la route loin de toi,

Incendie d'étoiles lactées

Pour toi j'écris cette romance

Effaçons les ponctuations!

Unless the sunlight catches them just right they are invisible from the ground. They zig-zag along the tops of the light poles on either side of Avenue A. It looks like mono filament to me. What possible use can they have? At points, like in this photo, the zig-zag is continued by thicker, more apparent rope. Neither would be capable of carrying electric current, and the mono-filament would not be strong enough to act as a guy wire. It's a mystery.

Close up of the remnants of an exploded filament of an 800w bulb inside a lighting head.

Sometimes the chance for an image can be found in an unusual place!

Sylvania type 9006 low-beam headlamp bulbs from my car. The one on the right was burned out and the filament is broken. The filament of the one on the left looks it was about to break. The filament in the new bulb (not shown here) was shiny, uniform, and straight. Not lumpy and crooked like these.

We can delivery the PLA filaments samples to you by freight, 500g, 4 colors,10m each filaments ,$109.
