My bedside table lamp is misbehaving a lot lately, got two light bulbs broken in two weeks. sigh... running low on light bulbs!

Un-retouched and shot under a blackening, post-typhoon sky.
I've become entranced by the thready filaments and almost prehistoric beauty of banyan trees.
I'll add more until the inspiration falls away or I find a greater temptation to explore.
Power supply for 6V filament of valve Line pre-amp. It could be use in a Phono stage due its ultra low noise.
Going to remove the center E and convert to a C core, then use it to wind a filament transformer for the electron microscope project.
The core needs to be large physically because the filament will be placed at an extremely high potential. In order to prevent arcing to the core, the secondary must be very well insulated and possibly even immersed in oil.

The series of video frames starts at the top, you can see the LED comes on immediately, It's not until the 3rd frame that the filament bulb is at full brightness. Then it takes the filament bulb a further 3 frames to cool down after the LED is off.
The LED is safer as it's marginally brighter, is visible immediately rather than having to warm up and as they're made by a major manufactuer, is likely to last longer than a filament bulb.

The bulb is back! Apparently this type of bulb will soon be banned. Is it the power they use or the gas that's inside them? They're probably not 'green'.

The hot filament of a light bulb that creates light by heat. You can see the twisted tungsten(gives more surface area!).
With 20 turn prototype secondary winding to be replaced by high voltage wire. 5V open circuit, 16A short circuit.
6 images focus stacked.
Each image 1/200s f/8 ISO 100. Set flash to ETTL-II, +2 FEC. Used 580EX II as master, but set not to fire, instead 580EX was use for flash, as slave.
