Not a common sight in this country - mature fruiting fig-tree in a walled garden on Steep Hill, Lincoln

On October 26th 2022 I discovered that a new galvanised walking track bridge had been built at the mouth of Browns Creek, where it enters the Manning River.

A wide concrete path leads to the bridge from the western end of Pitt and Nelson Streets near the old Peters Milk Factory Wharf.

The pathway and bridge allow new access in 2022 from the east across Browns Creek to the Taree Bicentennial Gardens, which up till now have been tucked away and underutilised on a peninsula between Browns Creek and the Manning River.

Presumably the path will eventually be continued east to the proposed future redevelopment of the old Peeress Butter Factory site fronting the Manning River. That project, which has been in the planning phase for many years, will potentially revitalise the historic Chatham Manning River front and will be known as 'Figtrees on the Manning'.

In the longer term it will also extend to Taree Recreation Centre at Chatham.

For now, the bridge gives access from Pitt and Nelson Streets west through the Taree Bicentennial Gardens.

Those who might explore a little further will find that the path through the gardens extends to a new walking cycling trail completed in December 2021 which links from under Browns Creek Bridge along the western side of Browns Creek through mangrove swamp forest and rainforest all the way to Muscio Park.

On the outskirts of Caracol, an excavation called "the Raleigh Group," there are some stone platforms built by Mayans. What was built atop them is unknown, but fig trees and Cohune palms have pretty much taken over.

January 2008, machine quilted. Strip pieced nine-patch from jellyroll (Figtree Allspice), plain sashing. Backed with contrasting print, contrasting bias tape. Shown by Peter! Loved the fabric, and wish I had waited to find something more interesting to do with it.

The fig tree grew on a leaning tree, creating a curtain effect.

My 79 year old Father in law (lives with us) is really loving the fresh figs. He used to grow them when he lived on Long Island NY. As well as picked them fresh in Italy as a child.

There's a few booboos in this one, but its the first time I've done something other than squares and rectangles so I'm happy with the end result.

I had to include this fig tree, which my mother has been growing for many years. This is the first year that it has produced fruit, we have had at least 6 figs and apparently now we will have more. It has been producing figs all winter, with huge leaves it is quite spectacular.

Had a very special treat this afternoon, spent a couple of hours watching mother & baby tree-cliimbers at my home.

This baby is so adorable and not long out of the pouch.

White Knights before the match against Figtree

"As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away." -Matthew 24:32-35
