It was all my fault, actually. Everyone wore themselves out barking at a fox who was yipping away out in the brush around sunset. The fox left, and the dogs eventually subsided into silence. I got curious as to whether it had been a male or female, so I listened to some audio samples which got everybody revved up again.

I figured that since I had ignited another barkathon inadvertently, I would go out with them and take pictures of the action. These doggies put up with a lot.

(It was a vixen as it turned out.)

More than 80,000 spectators soaked up the spring sunshine and carnival atmosphere of Ireland’s largest regional St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Limerick City today (Thursday, 17 March 2016).

Parade Grand Marshal, local actor Myles Breen, led more than 4,000 participants from 100 different community groups, companies, bands and sports clubs from across Limerick and Ireland for the parade which is organised by Grooveyard Productions on behalf of Limerick City and County Council and Limerick 2020.

This year's theme was 'Commemorate' celebrating Limerick's legacy, its people and its places. Among the participants in this year's Parade were pop duo Jedward and Fidget Feet Ariel Dance Company which performed a crane show over the city centre streets. Meanwhile, street arts company Spraoí brought their spectacular Stag Show to Limerick's main thoroughfares, Artastic and Spotlight Dance School provided a show-stopping spectacle, and The Workhouse Studio thrilled the crowds with their giant puppet and a host of colourful costumes. Other parade participants included The Fanzini Brothers, Danger Boy, Outside the Box, Flying Wheels, Clown Noir and Passepartout along with a wide range of local performance groups.

The fascinating group Fidget feet are in my town for a couple of weeks. They will be doing a big, formal show on October 15th. They had however a miniature version on October 9th, so I took some pictures. I will be doing the same on the 15th.

Fidget Feet is Ireland’s foremost Aerial Dance Theatre Company originally from Donegal. The Company creates spectacular indoor aerial dance site-specific work for theatres or festivals and outdoor contemporary circus suspended from cranes, trees, buildings and sets. Fidget Feet has become renowned internationally as a company that stretches the boundaries between several arts forms, combining aerial skills with contemporary circus and creating theatre fused with aerial dance, music and video art thereby making contemporary circus and aerial dance accessible. Aerial dance is a new art form in Ireland and Fidget Feet are committed to working with International circus practitioners and other Irish artists.

Founded in 2000 by choreographer Chantal McCormick Donegal and musician Jym Daly Cork, they work with top international choreographers, directors, contemporary dancers, aerialists and aerial technicians from Ireland and abroad while collaborating with an outstanding production team to create work that is both original and fresh.

All taken at 1/1000s. LHS Electronic Shutter / RHS = Mechanical Shutter

Top L = Nikon J5

Top R = Sony RX100

Mid L&R = Oly EM1ii

Bottom L&R = Panasonic TZ110

Conclusion: Oly EM1ii has much quicker electronic shutter / sensor read-out than others. Even there, it's probably not quick enough to match the real thing. I would love to test a Sony A9. However that's not going to happen. Anyone have an A9?

Note:

Just did these in five minutes. Not a scientific test. Spin speed could vary between shots. Apertures differed and focal lengths varied slightly. ISO's ranged between 1600 and 4000. So it's not an IQ / noise comparison. Only interested in whether electronic shutters are worth using. This makes me doubt they are if there's going to be much movement going on.
