The latest playground craze. Luckily my son works in a shop that sells them so he can buy them before they go on the shelves!
My grand daughter's fidget spinner in motion taken with my iPhone 6 (1/17 sec ISO 320). To the eye the golden curves do not appear to be broken.
There's not really a story here, my daughter wasn't very cooperative with this one, hence the presence of the fidget spinner in our home. There is definitely movement though!
Something that was new to me, but was the hot free give away from the Tinker Federal Credit Union (one of the sponsors)
Seem to be a craze like yo-yo's, dingbats and Rubik's cube were in my youth. Still it's better than ipads and iphones.

Fidget has almost no language. She knows only her name and hand signals for "food" and "stay". She's so kind and well-behaved that she doesn't need to know anything more.
She knows how to bring peace to people and other animals. Even feral cats don't fear her.

Close-up of a fidget spinner. Minolta MD version of the Vivitar 70-210, using a Fotodiox MD to Nikon adapter (which, due to the lens element to allow for infinity focus on a Nikon camera, acts as a 1.4x teleconverter).
Tildee, Fidget, Whimzy and new little Ting are making an end of year mess with the party decorations!
We wish you a very Happy New Year!!
I ended up calling these Fidget Necklaces, the more I made the more I played with them. It was a great way to use up the beads I made that are larger and don't match anything. I used recycled 14 gauge wire on the upright part of these and 18 gauge on the section that goes through the beads. I also used a soldered twisted jump ring for the connection to the 24" ball chain.

after much fidgeting, it seems to work, at least in 2-d. haven't tested the z-axis that much yet. Jesse had to write his own g-code generating for EMC2.

Great Pyrenees dogs like Fidget have three coats: Long, oily, pointed guard hairs form a water-shedding outer coat. Drops run to the pointed tips and fall off. As you can see here, the guard coat has a shingled structure.
A second layer of oily awn hairs -- think awning -- sheds water that gets past the guard hairs.
An inner coat of fluffy down hairs provides insulation that stays dry even in downpours. Down hair is shed preferentially in the spring, leaving most of the waterproof guard and awn coats intact.
We comb out down hair for a month or two in early summer rather than giving them haircuts (which would destroy their waterproofing).
(Edit, 2010: We shear 'em now. Their hair grows back over the summer.)
I like the randomness of taking pictures of the spinner in action. :-)

new today, group gift for the Energy Weekend Price goup!
Come see the store we're now open and im pretty proud of the build: maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Odysseus/44/167/21
There comes that defining moment for a photographer when you either take the picture through your somewhat grungy windshield, and at least hope you might get a good shot, or you don't take it, and you lose it altogether. I took the shot.
I have done this myself. It is sort of a mindless fidgeting at a stoplight type of behavior. What do guys do? Maybe while away the time looking at women doing this.
Raise your hand if you have ever done this.
"You damn kids and your fidget spinners! Back in my day, all we had were ball bearings, and we liked it that way!" ;)
