The Yellowhammer is one of my favourite birds but they're getting harder to find in Surrey these days. So I was pleased when I heard this particular birds distinctive song along a hedgerow the other day. It was also great to be able to take a few photos of him in full song.
A few days ago, I posted an image of the Bow Falls in Canada's Banff National Park. My Flickr friend Ka2rina commented on the photograph and asked if the rapids ever freeze up in winter, so I decided to answer with this photograph. It pictures the water of Bow Falls in three forms: liquid, ice and snow - a photographic trifecta.
A few years ago, I bought this ceramic object in El Rastro and I don´t know its function. I thought it was a salt shaker but it can´t be opened. It´s pretty!
Hace unos años, compré este objeto de cerámica en El Rastro pensando que era un salero, pero no tiene aperturas por ningún lado por lo que no sé cuál es su función. ¡Pero es bonito!
Few more flights for this one before being retired from Airfrance's fleet. Here is "Airfrance 3852" departing Paris - CDG bound to Bamako.
Endeans Mill is deep in the central North Island and close to Pureora Forest Park. A wonderful historical site filled with aging relics of the timber industry. The ghost in the window is courtesy of Photoshop.
Winter has shown us its less beautiful side in the last few days. It's actually cloudy, dreary and gray out there all day long. Probably at night too, but we are spared this sight because of the regular darkness.
Now it's time for me to change the seasons once again to at least spread a little light and color here.
And so we go back to a beautiful November evening in the beautiful Elbe Sandstone Mountains (on the outskirts of Lohmen) in a beautiful beech forest (someone might say I have a problem with superlatives) and enjoy the sun as it casts stripes of light and shadow on the forest floor.
By the way, the area directly in front of us spontaneously reminded me of a road, which led to the title of this picture.

Thank you most kindly for stopping by to view my work.
If you find you have a few words to say about what I have done they will be much appreciated.
My best regards to you.... Martin
I've been spending the last few evenings at one of my favourite spots catching some amazing Winter sunsets. There's nothing like a bit of beach time with my camera to sooth the soul and calm the senses.
Pictured here is the breakwater at the end of the St.Kilda pier and just to the right of this pic you can see people gathering near the waters edge . . . that's because at dusk, from in and amongst those rocks, penguins will appear.
It's quite a wonderful sight and even more amazing to think that only 8km away is the hustle and bustle of the city!
Whilst hiding in the hedgerow yesterday morning looking out for hares, we noticed a Fallow Buck in the distance. We managed to creep closer along the hedgerow and then this beautiful stag appeared out of the woods. He stayed for a few seconds and then they disappeared back into the woods.
Spotted this Indian Peacock serenading his hen in the golden rays of the setting sun.
The effect is so different from the 'daybreak' images I took a few days ago.
Here, the feathers seem to be sprinkled with gold-dust.

It was great fun watching this Sandhill Crane busting a few moves as part of a courtship display during our recent trip to Florida.
Whether or not you're planning to bust a few moves on the dance floor tonight, I wish you all a happy, healthy and photo filled 2025.
As always, thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving any comments or faves, they are very much appreciated.
This snap was taken a few days ago when the Red Arrows were performing over the Solent, just before the start of an America’s Cup World Series practice day.
I had cycled the last few miles down to the coast in an effort to beat the traffic and was therefore a bit restricted in carrying capacity and weight. Unfortunately, before departing, when I grabbed my camera I didn’t think to change my usual wide angle lens for something a little more appropriate for a distant air display! As a consequence, this snap has been cropped down by a huge amount.
Well that’s my excuse anyway!
A few local beaches is my theme for today. On one occasion, I took a visitor from Europe to visit some local beaches, and he declared that I live in a paradise. Here he stands on rocks to take a photo of the rolling surf.
A nice morning up in the heathery Peak. Some mist in the valley on the way up but thought I would come here before the influx of photographers over the next couple of weeks. Clear skies but still quite nice up there so not sure I will return. The midges were something else.
A few trees help frame this image of the Kissing Camels in the background. I was scouting for different angles during an early morning hike in the Garden of the Gods Park, Colorado Springs, Colorado when the sun made its way up providing a starburst through some of the trees on the right. Enjoy.
I spent a few days up on the Blue Ridge Parkway last week. We missed the Rodadenrums by a week. The weather was so much cooler than here in Florida. It was really nice but we did have a lot of fog, which moves in quickly and was very thick. I'm not really used to driving in those weather conditions and found it challenging. It can add a great element if you are in the right place at the right time.

Sunrays...
A few weeks ago we made our way to Heart Lake and spend a few hours braving the cold to get some shots. While we were there a young girl waked by totally unprepared for the cold with a denim jacket only and it want done up. Some people would rather freeze than wear warm clothing i guess.
A brilliant blazing winters sun Blasted its way through the thin cloud cover sending light in all directions.

A few years ago, while I was living in Victoria, BC, I took this long exposure along the Gorge Waterway.

We spent a few days on the Pest side of Budapest, Hungary. One day we went to the Buda side across the Danube river. This is the view from the Buda Castle to the Pest side, with Hungarian Parliament Building in the back.
I processed a photographic, a paintery, and a balanced HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

The Meyerson Symphony Center, KPMG Plaza at HALL Arts and the Dallas Arts Tower (formerly Chase Tower) are just a few of the structures in the Dallas Arts District.
Kayla yanked Adrienne behind a dumpster a few yards from the door, pressing her back against the cold metal as she scanned the alley. It was the same narrow passage they’d jumped to upon arriving at the restaurant.
“What was that about?” Adrienne murmured, her voice slightly unsteady. “I was just starting to feel the wine.”
Kayla held up a finger to her lips, a quiet shhh escaping her.
Just then, the side door flew open, and two men stepped into the alley. Their eyes swept up and down the dimly lit corridor.
“They’re not out here. Check the restroom, search the place!” one ordered.
A second voice murmured, “They may have jumped.”
The man in the gray suit slipped back inside, but the one in black remained, his gaze fixed on the shadows.
Kayla and Adrienne were on high alert. He was one of them. Without hesitation, they shifted between dimensions, peering at him through the haze of the veil.
“I saw our waiter speaking to the man in gray,” Kayla whispered. “They were watching us. I knew something was off.”
Adrienne frowned. “How did the waiter know who we were?”
“He’s human, so I’m not sure. But if the reptiles in this timeline have started mixing their DNA with humans, it’s possible he was controlled—maybe even able to sense us. If that’s the case, we didn’t detect him at all. That’s what worries me.”
The man in the black suit prowled the alley, nostrils flaring.
Then, in a deep, guttural voice thick with mucus, he snarled, “I smell you. You are here.”
In a blink, his form twisted, shifting into something monstrous. Scales rippled across his skin, his mouth stretching wide to reveal rows of jagged teeth dripping with spittle. A primal scream erupted from his throat, reverberating through the alley. He slashed the air with his talons ripping long claw marks in the steel dumpster.
Adrienne stiffened in horror. Even with the dimensional barrier protecting them, he felt terrifyingly close. She fought to suppress her own scream.
Kayla had seen this transformation before. She knew the effect it would have on Adrienne and instinctively wrapped her arm around her.
Then, as suddenly as he had changed, the reptile snapped back to his human disguise and vanished inside.

A few days ago, i was out to get some groceries and i saw this really cool mask and i had to buy it (Yep, i'm always spending all my money on stuff like that *sigh*).
The chance to try it out came quickly because one morning i was out trying to shoot landscapes but the weather was awful and i did not want to leave without photos....aaaand this is the result, 2 days worth of work (yes, yes i know, i'm slow)
I gotta be honest i really like this image and i hope you will like it too :) Have a great day.

You are a Kinglet? No! You are a hutton's vireo! A beautiful subtle bird of the forest, one with a large beak more yellow and far more subtle detail with the yellow poking through in a few areas that really separates one of these birds from a standard Kinglet
a few side notes...i love this song so much it makes me cry sometimes and i am the only one that thinks it sounds like they are saying in the opening, "excuse me, have you seen our ass?" and i have to be honest, if i had been left alone in a room with Suggs with his modified flat top, i would be in heaven ...
Madness / Our House...
A few years ago they opened a new state park in western Kansas and I dropped by to see it on the way home from Colorado. It's not far off I-70 south of Oakley. Unlike the typical flat Kansas landscape there are exposed Niobrara chalk formations from a long ago sea.

A few days later, same man, same shirt, this time in Morocco, I wanted this landscape shot, and so the serial photobomber rushed ahead to get his own shot, when he could have waited a few seconds while I took mine, and then had his own.
See the following shot for the photo I wanted to take.
The past few years our state of California has suffered massive fire tragedies caused by utility power lines.
I am hearing that preparations to prevent fires this coming fire season are being impacted by the pandemic, and the usual procedures to defend ourselves during wildfires (receiving reinforcements from outside the state, healthy firefighters living together in close quarters in stations and firecamps, etc., etc.) are in doubt.

Rain
It was the night Rod Stewart played
And we were, were standing in the pouring rain
If I had known it was the last time I would see you again...
I would change everything...
I look through the broken glass I watch the storm go through mymind
There's so much I had to say I know the words I left behind
And now I'm caught in a daydream with nowhere to run and hide
The world rushes by me, it's leaving me here all alone
(I would change everything, but I can't do anything
I would give all that I have to know where you are)
I'll always carry you inside my heart and you
You'll never know how much I wonder where you are
I always knew that you would take a part of me away with you
And I never got to say good-bye
I look in the mirror now and all I see is yesterday
At night I hear your voice and it is calling out my name
And with every hour just hold on to what you can
They're lost in a moment and fading away in the night
(I would change everything, but I can't do anything
I would give all that I have just to know where you are)
...and I never..ever...said good-bye...
That night is just a memory
But I still feel you standing next to me
And when I think I hear your voice all I hear is the RAIN...

Today a few pictures from last years my trip to Thailand fall into my hands (basically they fall into my eye but who wants to be so petty).
I hope it's okay if I add them here little by little. Somehow they put me in the holiday mood and give me warm thoughts. Both are very convenient for me right now.
I would like to start with a small part of the Grand Palace, the former residence of the Thai royal family, which is now one of the tourist hotspots in Bangkok and a national shrine.
Thailand's economy has had major difficulties over the last year. Perhaps the dark clouds over the palace already indicated this back then.
The building that can be seen here is a small palace within a palace (for the brother of the then ruler) called Prasat Phra Thep Bidon which was built between 1855 and 1868.

A few Stony Creek Frogs (Litoria wilcoxii) out enjoying the rain in Brisbane last night, but couldn't find much else. I guess it's getting towards the end of frog season...
I felt it wanted amore of touch of yellow so I went out and found a few weeds to add to it.
Thank you all so much for sharing your quality photos which is a great way to see and keep in touch with the world from home. Also for your kind comments and favours which are much valued.
