Few birds in Britain can match the visual appeal of the Kingfisher, yet it can be very hard to spot when perched in bankside vegetation.

A few weeks ago, after a lot of gray days, I made my way to the light on the heights of the Hunsrück and found what I was looking for.
While it was completely clear outside the forest, there was light fog and some hoarfrost in the wood, a wonderful mixture that captivated me for a few hours.
I came across this abandoned schoolhouse near the town of Girard, I asked the property owner what year it was built and when did it close, 1893-1938, he didn’t say as to why, he let me go inside so I could grab a few photos.
Sorry for not posting photos for a few days.
My RL work has become busy again.
I'm off today, so I want to take a lot of pictures 😊📷
Have a beautiful spring weekend to all 😉🌸

Having a few corners left over from the fun I had with my plastic cubes, I found myself seeing what more I could make of the images. One in particular was very colorful so I started with that one. I duplicated it a bit and that started to look interesting, I then added the yellow from the corner I cut off and that gave a bit of light to the dark. With some nice color going, I was off to look for a bit of texture which led me to a camping trip folder and a window from the side of a wooden building in Maryland. Turns out I really like that shot and went ahead and processed it too. A stone stairway from a monument at Gettysburg Battlefield also caught my eye so I gave it a try and liked it. Many, many times I head down this path and the image just doesn't work so I go find another. Just as many times the whole thing gets shelved and I go do something else. Every so often, as the piece gets developed, I like what I see as was the case here with The Onlookers. All in all, I used four images and included a collage in the first comment.

Wicken Fen in Cambridgeshire is one of England’s very few remaining pieces of original fenland. It is a protected wetland site of international standing. The wind pump here, a smock mill, was originally at nearby Adventurer’s Fen and is the last survivor of the many thousands that once dotted the fenlands.
A fen is a waterlogged place with reeds and other plants growing in standing water, beneath which are peats and, nearer the sea, marine silts. These flat wetlands were interspersed by islands (like Ely) carrying villages and small towns. Transport was by boat.
That was the original Fenland. Much of what is now called the Fens in eastern England is a modern landscape. The original fenland was drained from 1629 onwards by Dutch engineers to give very rich farmland.
An unexpected long-term result was that the underlying peat beds dried out and shrank. Fields sank by 2m or so and became lower than the drainage channels and rivers! Continuous pumping was then needed - first by wind pumps like this survivor at Wicken. Eventually the picturesque windpumps were replaced by steam power, then by diesel or electrically driven pumps.

It's been a while since I posted a lighthouse photo, and I do have a few more that I feel are worth sharing. This is the Cape Neddick Light, also known as Nubble Light or just the Nubble. Built in 1879, it is located on Nubble island which is just 90 meters off Cape Neddick Point, in Southern Maine. The lighthouse is only 12 meters high but because it sits on top of a steep rocky island, the light is actually 27 meters above sea level. The Nubble is a famous American icon and as such, a picture of it among with pictures from other prominent man made structures (like the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China) was carried by the Voyager Spacecraft, should it fall into the hands of intelligent extraterrestrials. Only the lighthouse keeper has access to the island and as you can imagine the small park at the tip of the cape right across from the lighthouse is almost always crowded with people enjoying the view of this beautiful structure and the rugged shoreline.

While taking this photo this song was on my ipod:
Time was drifting, this rock had got to roll
So, I hit the road and made my getaway
Restless feeling, really got a hold
I started searching for a better way
And I kept on looking for a sign in the middle of the night
But, I couldn't see the light, no, I couldn't see the light
I kept on looking for a way to take me through the night.-

A few days ago, I was straying around with my camera. As the sun started to set, it created a beautiful, directional light. A natural spot light so to say, shining directly on a passing cyclist.
I hope, you like the light and atmosphere as I did :)

Il y a quelques semaines une fête était en préparation au forum des halles et le DJ répétait..soudain il a joué cette célèbre chanson italienne et quelques passants ont spontanément commencé à danser...
A few weeks ago they were preparing a feast in a very famous parisian shopping center and the DJ was rehearsing ...he suddendly played this famous italian song and a few passers -by immediatly started to dance...
it seems very likely that St Anthony's Chapel was closely associated with Holyrood Abbey, which stood just a few hundred yards away to the north-west. The two were linked by a well-made stone track (now heavily worn) with prominent kerbstones that can in places still be seen, and about three quarters of the way along this track up to the chapel is the spring and carved stone bowl known as St Anthony's Well.
It's tempting to think of St Anthony's Chapel as an outlying chapel for Holyrood Abbey, perhaps constructed as a means of getting pilgrims out from under the feet of the monks in the abbey. It has also been suggested that the chapel served as a sort of religious beacon, designed to be clearly visible to sea-borne pilgrims coming to Holyrood Abbey as they sailed up the River Forth.
As for dating, there are references to a grant paid for repairs to St Anthony's Chapel by the Pope in 1426, suggesting the building could date back into the 1300s or beyond. Details of its demise are equally unclear, but presumably, like Holyrood Abbey itself, St Anthony's Chapel fell into disuse and disrepair after the Reformation in 1560.
Today, all that remains of the chapel are parts of the north wall plus remnants of another building a little to the south-west, which has sometimes been called a hermitage but was probably just a store room. The remaining chapel wall shows signs of vaulting, and it is thought that when complete the building would have comprised a small three-bay chapel, with a three-storey tower at its west end. This odd shape, almost as tall as it was long, supports the idea that the chapel was designed as much to ensure distant visibility as to accommodate worshippers.

Few likely remember the Cinebomb classic from 1957 "From Hell It Came". For those who are familiar will agree this tree closely resembles the horrifying oak that snatched up young island girls while they slept and deposited them into a pool of quicksand. This being a common event on remote islands where tree's are left unsupervised and allowed to freely roam to pursue these unspeakable acts of violence.
There are just a few hours left (you can check the countdown on the website that I link below!) and the sweetest ACCESS event of the year will finally be open! Enjoy with your Valentines and if you're single, take the chance to give a gift to your best friend or yourself, why not? Love is love in any form!

A few times a year I have a mini-origami-meeting with a friend, who also love to fold ;-)). Today is such a day. We each select some models to fold and this time I choose this abstract origami model, called "A trapped love", where a cube is surrounded by a thick "line".
When assembling this model you put in the cube halfway, because once the "line" is finished, you can't put the cube in. And when it is "trapped" inside, you can't take the cube out without destroying this "line".
I put the model on a mirror, so I hope you see the "line" better ;-)
It's an idea by Hans -Werner Guth and he was inspired by the origami "Umulius Rectangulum" by Thoki Yenn.
A few weeks ago I posted this photo in BW, today I want to show it in color.
What do you think is the duck house a raft? Or is it firmly anchored in the lake? A description of where the photo was taken can be found in the first comment :-)
Take care, wear your mask and stay healthy!
A few fun facts:
1-The Marble House has over 500,000 cubic feet of marble.
2-Alva Vanderbilt fought for women's rights & suffrage. (right to vote).
3- She is quoted as saying "Pray to God, She will help you."
4-She ( Alva) held a "coming out" party, with 400 guests, for her only daughter Consuelo.
5-At the party, 300 live hummingbirds were released, to hover around the indoor fountain.
6-She later moved to France permanently, to the Chateau d'Augerville, to be near her daughter.
Thank you, in advance, for any likes or comments. Peace, light, and blessings
Had a few hours to kill on Saturday so played around with Filters at Mentone Beach and this old Groyne in the heart of the afternoon.
I was really keen to catch the reflections the gaps in the fence made over the water. I originally envisoined this to be black and white and I have processed a version which I will post but I ended up liking this coloured one.
A few days ago I walked along the edge of the lake and was treated to the crunch and rustle of leaves with each step I made. The acoustics of this season are different and all sounds, no matter how hushed, are as crisp as autumn air.

Angel cat Happy Caturday enjoying some sun in Winter, one of favorite pictures, as you know he disappeared a few months ago, I had taken a lot of pictures of him, this is one.
A few kilometres to the east of Weldborough is one of the most spectacular fern displays that you will see anywhere in Australia. For kilometres beside the road huge ferns are on either side of the road. They are interspersed with stands of blackwood, sassafras and myrtle.
I tried quiet a few different subjects but eventually came back to my tried and tested watch parts. I was lucky how this set froze, quiet randomly the second hand lined up with the watch face, and the cogs were close to the surface of the ice. Originally I’d used ice cube trays to freeze objects but I ended up freezing them in a jar then cracking the ice into chunks with a knife.
To take the shot I placed the ice onto a stacked shot glass on top of a Pyrex lid on top of an LED light (with various other lights to pick out the detail).
Loving the variety in the group pool so far, makes me smile to think what’s been on ice in peoples freezers worldwide this week!
