Quasi likes to play fetch.

Just a shot during our at-least-once-daily game of fetch with Memphis. Every single time she leaves the cabin, she heads for the lake. It's so interesting to see how she's drawn to the water. Even if she just gets in for a moment to get wet up to her elbows, then to join us up the hill.

I do this project every year for FETCH! to promote their annual fundraising event. Several years ago, I designed the image with the dancing dog balancing wine bottles, surrounded by stars and superimposed over Whidbey Island. This image has been used consistantly for the last three years in all print marketing used to promote this event. FETCH! is a client that gives me total freedom. Nice!

duck pond, Utersum, playing fetch with the nice lady's dog.

While taking pictures of gulls at the Levee in Marietta Ohio in Jan 2013 I noticed some gulls that seemed to be playing fetch with floating sticks in the river. A gull would pick up a small floating stick take off into the air with it, and after reaching 20 or 30 feet in the air let the stick go. As the stick would fall back to the water the gull would chase it and sometimes catch it before it hit the water. Then he would start all over again. Often other gulls would notice the game as they passed and join in the chase. In a few cases when the stick was snatched by a passerby while falling a high speed chase would occur. I had never observed this behavior before but I am guessing it has something to do with practicing chasing down something to eat. They did appear to be enjoying the activity, and I know I was quite entertained watching them as well.

Doesn't work so well with rocks. At Lava Lake.

"Six Photos That Tell A Story"

I couldn't believe it when I saw this dog come out of the water carrying this log. He didn't drop it either!
