Cairns council created a Zhanjiang Friendship Garden at Freshwater Lakes in the Cairns Botanic Garden precinct, to celebrate the Sister Cities relationship between Cairns and the Chinese city of Zhanjiang. The Chinese-style garden, which celebrates the cultural heritage of the Cairns region, was officially opened on 21 November 2015. Situated on the banks of Freshwater Lake, within the Centenary Lakes precinct at Edge Hill, the garden incorporates traditional features in a contemporary style. It pays homage to the unique friendship that is maintained between the cities of Zhanjiang and Cairns. The entry pillars announce “arrival” and are adorned with graphic motifs of traditional cloud patters of Zhanjiang. Boulders of Chillagoe marble acknowledge the importance of rocks and mountains in Chinese garden culture.

A Moon Gate is inscribed with the words “Friendship Garden” and carved granite dogs at the entrance to the Pavilion are representative of the ancient dog sculptures unique to Zhanjiang. Designers consulted the Sister Cities Advisory Committee, the Consul-General to Mayor Wang Zhongbing, the Zhanjiang Urban Management Bureau, the Cairns and District Chinese Association and the Friends of the Botanic Gardens in preparing the brief. The style of the garden has been influenced by the designers' involvement with the Sino Australian Friendship Garden at Zhanjiang China, Cairns' Sister City – a 37ha contemporary style garden with modern Chinese elements that were in turn influenced by an existing 500 year old light house, a modern harbour bridge and an interest to fuse local Cairns cultural icons into the end result – a symbolic gesture that supported the 'friendship' between the two cities. 23193

Being around in the Wildsee Moor in Northern Black Forest is always a great time. It is an awesome wild place with pristine nature. On this day, we had an overcast sky, so I tried to pick out interesting details next to the lake. This little birch tree really stood out to me and was well worth the shot.

FENG SHUI HOTEL

This new luxury hotel was built according to the principles of Feng Shui. No parallel walls. The whole construction is made out of three circles. I really like the curvy facade in the inner courtyard, and the umbrella on the rooftop terrace with its reflection in one of the windows.

Feng Shui: It is best to have a “mountain” behind the house. The mountain behind protects the home.

(I want a mountain)

Singapore is a modern country, but we still follow old culture.

Waterloo Street has many temples and shrines in its vicinity. Many shops selling fengshui services and items can be found here.

Take time: much may be gained by patience.

Hier scheint den ganzen Tag die Sonne. Wenn sie denn scheint.

Außerdem brauchte ich mal wieder ein bisschen Blau, und ein bisschen ZEN ist auch dabei. Feng Shui sowieso. Ein Ort zum Meditieren und Fotografieren.

As many of the previous shots illustrate, we've had a lot of fog recently. I caught this scene at sunrise. The sun cast an orange glow in the sky, but had not yet reached the valley below.

No creo en la "suerte". Pero la simbología que se teje alrededor de esta es curiosa, ese folklore de fe en los pequeños amuletos, en la materia... evidencia el poco valor que a veces le damos a nuestro propio poder de decisión... siendo a veces penoso.

Chinese gardens are constructed to recreate and miniaturize larger natural landscapes. Traditionally, Chinese gardens blend unique, ornate buildings with natural elements. Just about every Chinese garden contains architecture, like a building or pavilion; decorative rocks and a rock garden; plants, trees and flowers; and water elements, like ponds. Most Chinese gardens are enclosed by a wall and some have winding paths. Chinese gardens aren’t just thrown together. Instead, they’re deliberately designed and visitors should walk through them in the particular order that the garden was laid out.

The Chinese Garden of Friendship (simplified Chinese: 谊园; traditional Chinese: 誼園) is a heritage-listed 1.03-hectare (3-acre) Chinese garden at 1 Harbour Street, in the Sydney Central Business District, City of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Modelled after the classic private gardens of the Ming Dynasty, the garden offers an insight into Chinese heritage and culture. It was designed by Guangzhou Garden Planning & Building Design Institute, Tsang & Lee, and Edmond Bull & Corkery and built from 1986 to 1988 by Gutteridge Haskins & Davey; the Darling Harbour Authority; Imperial Gardens; Leightons; and Australian Native Landscapes. The gardens were added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 5 October 2018. The Chinese Garden of Friendship was designed by Sydney's Chinese sister city, Guangzhou in China. Sydney's Chinatown complements the area's already rich in Chinese heritage and culture. The garden was officially opened 17 January 1988 as part of Sydney's Bicentennial Celebrations and named the Chinese Garden of Friendship symbolising the bond established between China and Australia. 14948
