Pan American World Airways was the principal and largest international air carrier and unofficial flag carrier of the United States from 1927 until its collapse on December 4, 1991. the airline was a cultural icon of the 20th century.

Pan Am was the launch customer of the Boeing 747 and so it revolutionized air travel with the first widebodied airliner.

Pan Am has been also the second (after Eastern Airlines) US company to order, in 1984, from Airbus the A.300Bs followed by the Airbus A.310: 7 of series -200 and 14 of the series -300.

In 1991, Delta acquired substantially all of Pan Am's trans-Atlantic routes and then inherited part of the Pan Am long range fleet, including all the Airbus A.310s.

N804PA (c/n 345 series -221) was delivered to Pan Am in June 1985 and moved to Delta on November 1st, 1991. It was retired by Delta in September 1993 and sold for Cargo Conversion. Fedex Federal Express operated it as N419FE from May 1995 to retirement in May 2012.

a year later she moved across the North Sea to serve Britannia Airways and was subsequently re-registered G-OAHK. In 1992, she moved across to serve short-lived Inter European Airways. Next, she moved across the "Pond" on behalf of Leisure Air as N250LA in 1993 until taken up by America West as N916AW "City of Phoenix/City of Tucson" and altogether painted in "Arizona" special cs. Her stay in her home country lasted until 1998 when she was back with Air Holland as PH-AHK. The 757 then took up a short termed residency in GVA to serve short-lived Swiss World Airways. Back again with Air Holland in 1998, she was finally returned to AWAS a year later as N291AN. The current century was started with Las Vegas-based National Airlines as N291NA and then N541NA. But the venture proved to be short-lived and in 2001, the aircraft was repossed by AWAS. The later relocated the 757 in Montevideo courtesy of Pluna as CX-PUD. Four years later in 2007, she moved across the South Atlantic and serve Lagos-based Med-View Airlines. In 2008, she became "Kirby" with FedEx as N917FD and conversion into SF status was completed in August 2009.

The above image is a scan from an original Kodachromeâ„¢ slide. The default size is 2000 x 1250 pixels, so clicking on the photo will enlarge it for better viewing.

The original image comes from my slide collection, amassed over the past 40+ years. They are a combination of my own photographs and ones acquired over those years.

I created this Photostream in 2017 for the purpose of holding my slide collection as an archive, as otherwise they would just remain in binders and boxes, not being enjoyed by anyone, myself included.

This A300 previously visited in November 2004 as TF-ELU of Islandsflug. It was sold to Fedex in 2005 and as far as I'm aware it has not served in Europe before, having only been ferried across the Atlantic yesterday.
