18 February 2021: In the week to 14 February on average 1791 people tested positive each day in Belgium. The figure is down 17% on the week. In the same period 119 patients with Covid were hospitalised and 38 fatalities a day were linked to Covid. The figures are down respectively 10% and 7% on the week. As Belgium’s coronavirus infection and hospitalisation figures are decreasing and the vaccination campaign is slowly but surely picking up steam, conversation have turned to which measures could be relaxed next, and when. Experts, however, remain very cautious about possible relaxations in the near future. They want the figures to decrease further before they are willing to recommend any form of deconfinement and even than they stress that it is going to be key that measures are lifted in a gradual manner. I’m wondering what the Belgium government will decide when they meet again on Friday, 26 February to discuss the roadmap for the next phases of the pandemic. In the meantime, I continue to focus on documenting daily life or what draws my attention during my daily corona walks in my hometown. On display today are students hanging out on the St. Peter's Square, located in student neighborhood. The image that I shot late yesterday afternoon suggests that more and more people are fed up with the lockdown and are not respecting social distancing. Now that spring is knocking at the door it’s going to become harder to drive compliance to the measures that were put in place to curb the spread of the virus – St. Peter’s Square, Ghent, Belgium.

Having had a dreadful evening/night yesterday I wasn't sure if I'd get out, but I also thought a bit of fresh air might do me more good, so I headed out. I also wanted to get the leaf detail of this photo :

to help with the ID. I did find the plant and did take some photos, but they were rubbish, so the shrub remains nameless until I can get to it again.
On my way home, I heard one of our Song Thrushes, so then just had to find it. Luckily it had chosen a telegraph pole to sit on, rather than a tree. It not only sounded lovely, but looked great with the blue sky too.

Today's Sweet Sunday is a Red Velvet cake.
The amusing part of this photo is that my exercise mat is the background, a little bit of an opposites attract thing going on today, but that mat's colours and design really suited the cupcake.
Hope everyone has been having a good Sunday, I've managed to be quite productive today. I think the majority of my to-do list is crossed off, so the rest of the weekend is for laundry and relaxing. Not too bad.

15 February 2021: The average number of new cases of coronavirus diagnosed has fallen for the eleventh consecutive day. In the week to 11 February on average 1882 people tested positive each day in Belgium. The figure is down 19% on the week. Still with less than 4% of its population vaccinated Belgium remains vulnerable to the virus. Belgium’s vaccination taskforce has released figures yesterday showing the number of people who can look forward to getting a jab with the corona vaccine next week. Next week 64,000 people in Belgium will receive their first jab.75.000 will receive their second shot. Most second doses are being administered in care homes. Finally, some progress! Still Belgium, just like all EU countries, is doing worse than other countries. The former Belgian premier Guy Verhofstadt, who currently serves in the European Parliament and is a former leader of the liberal group, slams what he calls “Von der Leyen’s vaccine fiasco”. He goes on to compare this poor record to Europe’s amazing vaccine production capacity with over 75% of all vaccines worldwide currently being produced in Europe. “This contrasts with a crucial lack of supply in every member state. It’s a lack not seen in the same dramatic proportions in the US, Canada or the UK. In the US nearly 10% of the population has had a first shot. In Britain it’s 20%.” I don’t know if I fully agree with him, however, it’s hard to argue against the fact that the EU has not been excelling in agility and nimbleness. Yesterday was also the last day of the cold weather. A great opportunity to shoot some winter fun just outside Ghent – Zevergem, Belgium.

I know another bird photo, but now I've got the Panasonic I can get them and this was far too good to miss. Although I have to say it was pure luck.
These two obviously think Spring is in the air as they were really loving it up, but not ready for the family yet!
Another lovely sunny day albeit rather a nippy one; although not as cold as yesterday. So I went out for a stroll round just before lunch.

February 27, 2017 at Valle de Cocora, Quindío, Colombia. This is a male Long-tailed Sylph (Aglaiocercus kingii), They inhabit the forests of the Andes in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia at 1500 to 2500 meters above sea level. Thia image was taken at about 2400 meters (8000 feet) above sea level.

Izzy: "A lovely sunny day today, but like all Wednesdays Mum was stuck at home, so we both made the most of the garden. Rufus came out too, but went back inside to snuggle up on the bed.
Not long after Mum had taken this photo than a Jet flew over. Now I don't mind the Herring Gulls, but that Jet made such a noise that I raced inside and wouldn't go out again."

February 16, 2017 at Cali, Colombia. The Greyish Piculet ENDEMIC to Colombia is an uncommon member of the Picidae family and at 8.9 cm (3.5 inches) in length it is the world's smallest woodpecker.
Its natural habitats are tropical dry forest, subtropical moist forests, shade coffee plantations and heavily degraded former forest at altitudes between 800 and 2100 meters (2600 and 6900 feet) above sea level.
This is the female. The male would be similar with orange spots instead of white on the crown.

After missing January's LFF through having that horrible 'flu that was going around, I couldn't wait for February to come around.
Much quieter than December's event, and I stayed in the Cosmopolitan all night instead of going out round the various venues.
A chilled night chatting and catching up with good friends, and meeting new ones too.

We got together with my sister-in-law and her family for my nephew's birthday, just a quickly thrown together lunch at the House of the Other Mouse.
A Thoroughbred coal train crosses the Susquehanna River on the Philadelphia, Harrisburg and Pittsburgh Bridge. Built in 1924 by the Reading Railroad, this bridge has 51 arches, three more than its famous PRR neighbor, Rockville Bridge.
Here is the February 2013 calendar shot by Bruce Kerr who is a locomotive engineer in Harrisburg, Pa.
It’s a good thing Bruce Kerr counts climbing among his hobbies. For this photo, Kerr had to climb a 13-foot mound of dirt, stones, and boulders to get to the right vantage point. “Between the shifting dirt, the clouds, the bugs, sumac trees in the way that I had to cut, and getting a train at just the right time, it’s difficult to get this shot to come together,” Kerr says. “But I like climbing, and it’s worth it to get a good picture.” In fact, Kerr doesn’t mind shinnying up a tree to get a better perspective, and he keeps a set of climbing pegs with his camera.
“There’s nothing that improves the look of a shot more than elevation,” Kerr notes. “Looking back, I wish I had climbed the tree to the right of the mound. I think I could have gotten more of city in the photo.”

On a gloomy February day in 2013, I happened across a Huron & Eastern grain train heading north between Saginaw and Bay City. Amazingly, powering the train were the final 3 units still in their Central Michigan black and white: GP38ACs 8804 and 8802, and GP40-2W 9712. Figuring this would be something I would likely never see again (I was right), I chased it for a while. Seen here rolling under I-75 on Bay City's west side, the train is now on the ex NYC line headed to the grain elevator in Auburn. G&W had just completed their purchase of Rail America, and later that year the retirements, repainting and renumbering would begin.

Yosemite winters are made for black and whites, and Ansel Adam's ghost haunts the brilliant landscape scenery!
The most epic "Ansel Adams" view is tunnel view where one can see El Capitan, Bridalviel Falls, and Half Dome over magnificent trees, snow, rising fogs, and breaking mists. Enjoy!
Been busy traveling and shooting landscapes and working on my books The Golden Hero's Odyssey about the golden rectangle and divine proportion I use in a lot of my compositions! Thanks to my land slumlords being completely disorganized, I found myself with another afternoon off while waiting around for them.
My friend offered up her daughter as a "prop" for my 366 project today (I think she just likes free photos lol).
So everyone, meet F, she's 5 months old and is reaching the point where she's starting to be expressive in her face. I've done about 4 photo sessions with her now and so far this one has been my favourite because she was a bundle of giggles and screams.
