I decided as long as I was at it, I'd replace all the fasteners throughout the lathe with high strength stainless steel, and using a copper-based anti-seize to prevent gauling. McMaster to the rescue for most of the fasteners - and there were quite the selection in size and type used on this lathe.

Quick Release Fasteners are easy to install, stop vibration and hold various accessible doors, panels, grills, etc. in place. They also do not require tools to operate.

An amazing wall of bolts, nuts & screws. Organized by size and type, then labeled by hand. Everything is a bit rusty, but this only adds to the charm. This is all slightly more functional than Home Depot.

The Fastener Capture Plate was developed for the repair of the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS), a science instrument whose power supply failed after seven years in orbit. This device was used to capture the 107 small screws (fasteners) that secured the cover of the instrument's main electronics compartment, ensuring that none of them could float away and potentially cause problems elsewhere.
