The theme for this week's Macro Mondays is "fastener". I chose this decorative hinge which fastens the door to its frame.
Group: Macro Mondays
Theme: Fastener
I have a leather coat from Wilson Leather. I don't know if they are still in business as the coat is pretty old. But here's the zipper and a snap-head from the coat. I thought they made a nice pair for the theme.
Happy Macro Monday to all!

This insulation fastener, usually sold in boxes of 100, is the hardware used in the HVAC sheet metal trade to attach liner and insulation to metal plenums and ductwork. A typical sheet metal shop can utilize thousands of these fasteners over the course of a month.

A threaded fastener is a discrete piece of hardware that has internal or external screw threads. It falls into the overall fastener family. They are usually used for the assembly of multiple parts and facilitate disassembly.
A rivet is a permanent mechanical fastener. Before being installed, a rivet consists of a smooth cylindrical shaft with a head on one end. The end opposite to the head is called the tail. On installation the rivet is placed in a punched or drilled hole, and the tail deformed, so that it expands to about 1.5 times the original shaft diameter, holding the rivet in place. In other words, pounding creates a new "head" on the other end by smashing the "tail" material flatter, resulting in a rivet that is roughly a dumbbell shape. To distinguish between the two ends of the rivet, the original head is called the factory head and the deformed end is called the shop head or buck-tail.

Thanks to my Miniature Poodle, Luna, for letting me borrow her harness for this picture, not that she wears it much anyway.

An end view of part of a roof joist recently removed from our pole barn, complete with rusty nails (fasteners). Despite the light coloured appearance of the outside of the wood, it is in fact a lovely mahogany shade when cut and has very fine grain. The wood is very dense (985kg per cubic metre) which means it only just floats in water. My best guess at the species of wood is Australian Red Mahogany, which, as far as I can determine, is the only mahogany with a density that high.
