MacroMondays Fasteners

This weeks Macro Mondays theme is Fastener.

Here is an interior view of a bolt. The items you see here, left to right, are the bolt, a nut, a bolting plate, a piece of channel strut, a washer, and the bolt head at the far right.

I was determined to do something different for this theme, and I really tried, but I guess it was always inevitable that I would end up with a button. The only problem then was which one to choose! Anyway, eventually this one stayed in my hand and here it is. It dates from the 1900s and it's made of an early plastic with an enamelled filigree escutcheon. The button is leaning against a Sylko cotton reel from the 1950s/60s.

For this week's Macro Mondays group theme, Fastener. The button is a little under 1¼" wide.

"Nuts"... "Looking close on Friday"... Nuts are one type of fastener. They come in all shapes, sizes and thread types. This is just a very minute selection of imperial size nuts that can be found on Classic British vehicles.

A row of safety pins, where I've aligned the coils ends.

My aimed was to create a very graphic/stylised image, where the negative space was as important as the objects themselves. I placed the pins on a lightbox to enhance the contrast.

-[ N is for Nails ]-

Rusty nails, that is. The ones on top are eight-penny (2½" or 63.5mm long) box nails; the bottom, five-penny (1¾" or 44.5mm long) finish nails.

I don't recall when I bought these nails, but I must have had them since at least the 1990s. In any case, I haven't used many since then, and time and humidity left their mark on the unprotected steel. Ever since my preferences shifted towards screws and wood glue (holding together the lightbox from two days earlier, for example), I never used nails again.

This is a PLETHORA of different types of Fasteners. Even an antique button hook which was a giveaway by the Ladies' section of the Globe and Mail early last century. This collection fits the measurements of the rules for MM- easily covered by a credit card! HMM

Golden Nut

If I were nut, where am I ? maybe a spacecraft nut in the far-up sky, or maybe part of a Vauxhall Viva, 🚗 driven around by a lead-footed diva, I'd like to be a Porche wheel nut, wheelspinning around like a big donut. 🍩

Fun poetry

by Sean.

For this week's (Macro Monday) with a theme of "fastener" I assembled a selection of small nuts and bolts 🔩 and tried to make them look as interesting as I possibly could.

This image was photographed outside with the lovely sunshine as my only light source.

I got in very close to capture this image in macro. All the nuts and bolts were the same size, although it doesn't really look that way.

I do have a vast array of things I could have used today for the prop, I have a large shed full of items suitable, which made choosing anything more difficult.

I have enhanced the image in the usual way to hopefully improve the end result.

Love & Peace Everyone ❤️

Cheers 🍻 Sean.

I'm becoming hooked on purchasing Celtic jewelry with mythological images. The first Celtic brooch I purchased was on the Isle of Skye in Scotland in 2016. I found this beauty at the Maryland Renaissance Festival last year. The Celtic brooch, more properly called the penannular brooch are types of brooch clothes fasteners, often rather large. HMM ! !
