I made this for my daughter's bday. She had a Fancy Nancy party. Fancy Nancy is a series of children's books that are all about a little girl named Nancy. She loves things fancy and over the top so that is where I went with the cake.

We cut up a fancy pumpkin we had bought and displayed on our dining room table. It was much harder than the average orange pumpkin. Janice baked it and scooped out the soft stuff. We'll see what the pie tastes like!

Mountain Laurel buds. This is a flower I have been familiar with since I was a child. It grows native in Connecticut and was everywhere in our backyard and woods where I grew up. I always thought it was pretty, but now appreciate it's beauty so much more!

I'm wondering if this was taken at the same time as the carnival pictures (1929?), and also whether this is a local football team perhaps given it's an all-male gathering.
Note the kids peeping over the top of the fence at the photographer.
The wooden structure attached to the fence seems strange, unless it's to do with a scoreboard for the Bill Quay cricket ground. Just a guess. What looks like netting in the background is, I think, the framework on a sloping greenhouse roof.
All of the instruments at CFHT are cooled using some form of closed-cycle cooling. In the case of Megacam we use a closed-cycle helium cooler that utilizes a custom rotating valve and pulse tube that was designed specifically for this camera.
In addition to the cryogenic system to cool the detector, most instruments also require some way to remove heat from the room temperature electronics as well. This is done using a closed-cycle glycol system.
In this photo my co-workers are attaching the helium lines (toward the top of the image) and the glycol lines (toward the bottom).
When people ask what we do for a living and we say, "Everything including plumbing the kitchen sink!" we're not that far off the mark.
