(Primula veris x vulgaris) The 'false oxlip' is a naturally occurring occasional hybrid between wild primroses and cowslips. In this case the hybridisation took place in my own garden. I introduced both species a few years back and they have both begun to colonise quite well and as you see also to hybridise.
The false oxlip is so called because it resembles somewhat another completely autonomous species called the 'oxlip' (primula elatior) whose individual flowers are not quite so big as those of its imitator the false oxlip, and like the cowslip hang in a one sided bunch.

Figured I better post this one for posterities' sake, since after this cold snap it looks like we'll be digging this guy up and tossing it in the trash.
I cloned in a big flag atop one of the World Trade Center towers. I was there in 1999, but they had disappeared by 2001.
