This is the old farmhouse where my Dad grew up.
In May ’73, while house sitting, I performed a reciprocity failure experiment to see how various exposure times would affect the colors in a Kodachrome slide, using only the light from a nearby streetlight.
This was probably around a 15-minute exposure. (I seem to recall that the longest was 30 minutes, but I have found only this slide so far.)
A backward glance at lunch break in downtown Toronto.
Is it only me this happens to? Even when I put my camera or phone on silent, it seems one person (or pet) always senses my presence and turns around. :-)
My first reaction was that this ruined the photo. Then I started to think it was kind of funny.
gotta love them motivation posters. I'm definitely putting this one in my office...because it's so true.
I was not feeling too great today so I decided to take this picture to show what was running through my mind
This is for JFDI challenge 43: Feel the fear and do it anyway.
I had NO clue what to do today, until an idea popped into my head as I was putting the kids to bed, inspired by a conversation I had with a friend at work today, about a particular shop. I'm still not hugely comfortable doing public SPs so I thought I'd go do a facedown or something, right in front of the shop - it would cover JFDI, and be funny in the context of the conversation I'd had.
Except when I got there, it turned out the shop wasn't called what I thought it was - which kind of wrecked my plan. It would still have done for JFDI I suppose... but somehow the plan was ruined.
So, I tried to get a shot in some local woods, but everything I tried was scuppered by brambles and thorns and my lack of agility. I had a little panic - I hated the thought of not getting my shot. And I had a little dawning of realisation - I really am scared to fail.
So this is me, posting completely not any of the shots I wanted, trying not to run away from the thought of failure, but instead facing it head on.

From June 1993: while going through hours of recorded rail radio traffic, I found this exchange between the CSX SM Dispatcher who was controlling the former B&O in the Middletown Ohio area. This dispatcher had a reputation for no nonsense. D744 (a symbol today used for a Lima south local) apparently didn't have a working engine radio and had to have another train relay all of the messages.

Ivey's "System Failure" haunted game is not only incredibly badass, she has got TONS of goodies, from amazing devs (including herself) all over the place. This hoodie from Auxiliary, which is their hooded coat in black with goat horns and ears (SO CUTE), and these jeans from Goth1c0 are just two of these wicked cool goodies. Match them with Sn@tch's black combat boots that she sells at her store and you have a great casual look to go explore all the October-y happiness going on in SL :D
During my time at Rennies there were a number of Leyland Nationals dumped in the top yard having suffered mechanical failure. Seen here is RUH 816M a 10351/1R dating from 1974. Acquired by Rennies from Taff-Ely, Pontypridd in June 1987 it had not lasted very long despite having had a repaint into fleet livery.
Drive failure is not an IF, it's a WHEN. WHEN is NOW. My photo library drive gave up the ghost. BOOOOoooo…¡
I won't be posting much beyond Sunday, until I replace some equipment and adjust my workflow. Hard drives are expendable items.
These fortune cookies had the weirdest, most ridiculous fortunes ever. This is just a small sample of the more weird ones.
1) "What a dog you got. His favorite bone is in my arm!"
2) "Failure is not final. Just make sure you don't die because of it."
arm, bone, dog, fortune cookies.
WTF. death. failure. weird.

Photo for the flyer for "Congestive Art Failure", design by Kris
Wright, presented by Evermore Tattoo. The show features work from
many local artists and has a distinct medical illustration slant to
the work. If you're in the Lou, stop on by...there is going to be
some super snazzy stuff there.
The show opens on Valentine's Day at 7 p.m. at The Fubar, 3108 Locust
Street in the city. Cover charge is 5 bucks, and gives you access to
the art and four bands: Harvey, The Conformists, The Hail Marys, and
The Graduate. Check it.
Ex-FGW 43034 and 43030 arrive into Arbroath, having ran wrong line from Carnoustie, as 1Z99 from Perth. The HST set was called upon to rescue 43135, with 43176 on the rear, which had failed at Arbroath with 1T06, the 0640 from Aberdeen to Glasgow Queen Street.

Structural failure occurs because of forces acting on the structure. These can be static forces (stationary forces) due to the structure's own weight or the load that it is carrying, OR dynamic forces (moving forces) produced by the wind, sea, vehicles, people, etc.
In the story of the Three Little Pigs the force that acted on the houses was a dynamic force. In this case the force was a fierce wind. However, if the force that had acted on the houses was another type of dynamic force, say an earthquake, the brick house would have been the worst structure to live in. In fact, an unreinforced masonry building is much more life threatening in an earthquake when compared to a straw hut. When designing structures it is very important to consider what types of forces will act on each and every structure depending on use and location. Every one is different!
PHOTOSHOP COMPOSITION: The Flesh Failures.
This my early February submission. Lately I have have been having a very strong feeling of longing for my past. I is both a sad and joyful feeling. This picture of an old upstate New York theater (still functioning) brings those feelings into focus.
Fun fact # 1. This picture was taken in Syracuse, New York. I lived there from June 1978 through June of 1980. Great times.
Fun fact # 2. This is the last track on the Hair Original Soundtrack LP. I saw the original Broadway production in 1968!
I have decided to give myself a monthly challange with photography and CS5. The lesson is very simple, I have listed twelve of my favorite songs and each month I will take one of the song titles and compose a picture around it. My criteria is that the picture must be an original picture I have taken and that I use my CS5 skills to enhance the picture to meet the theme of the song title. Some will be direct some obscure. Listed below are the songs I will be using in the next twelve months. Here is my September compostion. This is a prototype. I have a better idea in mind but it will take a few days to take the picutres.

Captain Haddock: Failed. There are plenty of others willing to call you a failure. A fool. A loser. A hopeless souse. Don't you ever say it of yourself. You send out the wrong signal, that is what people pick up. Don't you understand? You care about something, you fight for it. You hit a wall, you push through it. There's something you need to know about failure, Tintin. You can never let it defeat you.
Our Daily Challenge - Begins with F. I went for failure of figures, take your pick. Phoned up to get laptop seen and I was told bring it in on March 1st! So decided to take matters into my own hands and sent the Toy Story soldiers in. Well I counted them all out and counted them all in and one was not there. Missing in action I assume.
