This past summer, I was just about to step off of the boardwalk when I noticed this dragonfly resting in the morning sun.
Thank you for your visits and comments, they're all greatly appreciated. Have a great day!
We found this beautiful Red-faced Warbler while exploring Carr Canyon in the Huachucas of Southeastern Arizona. No matter how many times I see these little beauties it’s always exciting!

White-faced ibis are in decline in North America due to the draining of wetlands. The largest nesting colony in the world can be found in the marshes around the Great Salt lake in Utah.
This one was photographed in the Bear River NWR, Utah.

Part of a huge bronze sculpture by Tony Cragg on display at YSP (I'm not sure what it's called though). I liked how there seemed to be faces everywhere you looked.

The blue-faced Malkoha is a bird of open forests and scrub jungle. Easy to distinguish as its bill is apple green, and it has a naked patch of blue skin surrounding the eye. The sexes are alike. The bird is a non-parasitic Cuckoo found in the scrub and deciduous forests of peninsular India and Sri Lanka. The Blue-faced Malkoha forages in the undergrowth, taking a variety of insects, caterpillars and small vertebrates. It is also called the Small Green-billed Malkoha. This is a new species for me, the first of this year.
This white-faced monkey seems to have either scars or healing cuts on the forehead and lower lip. He's intently focused on the remains of a piece of fruit while squatting on a tree limb. There are four species of monkeys native to Costa Rica, besides the white-faced, there are also the howler, the spider and the squirrel monkeys.
The current favourite bloom in my garden.
Some say the Rosa 'Angel Face' is the best looking purple rose. The colour is a mauve-lavender with some pink. It is a cross of a floribundas and hybrid tea rose.

Feasting on Boxthorn.
In about a week, the Cuckoo-shrike and Spiny-cheeked Honeyeater had cleared the bushes.
The only winner the boxthorn as its seeds were spread.
Glanced down at my desk and saw this face looking back at me (your only clue). What is it?

A Native American legend held that an evil spirit lived in the ocean. A beautiful maiden visited the area with her tribe for a great feast. She took her dog and her kittens in a basket with her when she went down by the waves and danced. The evil spirit emerged and grabbed the beautiful maiden and tried to force her to look at him. She refused and gazed at the moon. Her dog went into the water carrying the basket of kittens and tried to save the maiden. The monster kicked the dog and cast the kittens into the ocean. The kittens and the dog turned to stone. The maiden also turned to stone and continues to gaze toward the moon.
White-faced Heron (Egretta novaehollandiae) hunting at dusk in the streets of Heathcote, central Victoria, Australia. A few days later, a White-faced Heron was reported on Ebird on the same town street, so this fellow is quite the famous Heron.
The plumes on the back look quite a bit longer than usual, so I wondered if this Heron was in breeding plumage (?); however, the breeding season for this species is September-December.
The face isn't mine :) I will try to do SP in the next few days though...watch out...hehe. Before I do, I need help from strobist masters out there....give me tips, please, please, please! :-)

Yet another iconic sound of the Peruvian Amazon, but such a rare sight.
There aren't many photos of this bird out there - its colours, ground dwelling behaviour and aversion to open spaces in the dark undergrowth of the Amazon all combined to make it one hard to see bird!
Even with the help of playback it seems more like a ghost with a voice than a real bird.
