After the Second World War numerous bus operators purchased AEC Matadors and converted them to heavy recovery units. The FWD COE was built in America under the Lend Lease arrangement, and very much to the design of the Matador, its two main disadvantages were its thirsty engine and it ran permanently in FWD. Wolverhampton were one of the few fleets to use one, it is shown on the last day of trolley bus operations, and would not last much longer being replaced by an AEC Matador.
