A little field of reeds with heavy frost on it, probably dreaming of Spring.

I always think frost is amazing, the way it covers the surface of everything with magical little crystals and creates the most wonderful patterns and textures. Taken down my garden these ferns looked so photogenic I had to go and get my tripod out and spent a very happy few minutes looking for just the right composition.

Wonderful to see the cats out in the frost, probably for the very first time this morning. Little Candy pulled a few poses for me, despite being a bit cold on the paws <3

seen in my garden...

Frost on a leaf. We are getting beautiful sunny days and clear cool nights. The frost is starting to accumulate anywhere that stays in the shade all day.

Thank you, your views, favs and comments are greatly appreciated!

Temperatures have reached extreme lows in our area. In the early morning, frost covered everything. By the sunrise this made fantastic shots.

Frost feathers on my vehicle windscreen this morning.

Shot from inside the vehicle.

One morning after the snow, the young buds of Corokia x virgata ‘Frosted Chocolate’ were indeed frosted in the morning sunlight.

Corokia x virgata is a evergreen plant of a natural hybrid between Corokia buddleioides and Corokia cotoneaster, both of which are native to New Zealand.

And now for something completely different... I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with frost flowers, but they are a phenomenon that occurs with a few very particular plant species-- I believe this one is called Frostweed. In late fall/early winter, the stem freezes and breaks open while continuing to draw moisture from the soil, resulting in very fine strands of ice forming in a wide variety of shapes. This has the look and consistency of cotton candy, and is extremely delicate-- the slightest touch will cause them to disintegrate. I was out in southern Missouri yesterday looking for fall foliage. The overall colors were not great and the cloudless skies did not help, but my photo buddy and I found a large stand of frost flowers, which in my mind more than compensated for the lack of colors. Even in the darkest days of winter, signs of life & hope can be found, like these little Hellebore buds frosted with ice. They were a surprise & I was thrilled to find them!

"And for all this, nature is never spent;

There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;

And though the last lights off the black West went

Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs--..."

Gerard Manley Hopkins

Still cold here.

More snow forecast.

I think I'll stay in the warm and vote for hibernation.

the day after christmas, i awoke to frost-covered grass. the sun was hidden behind clouds, but gradually the horizon filled with orange. it was a practice in patience; a practice in just being. as i view this image now, i see blades of grass in community. we’re individuals and we’re interconnected; we need inner-strength and we need others' support. in life, there’s cold and warm, hope and heartbreak, love and sadness. and we’re in this mysterious, complicated, beautiful ride together.

happy new year, friends!

A frosty foggy morning left the grass and heather frosted. I only had a digital camera, so for once, I would like to present a colour photo...

We have had 3 glorious days of hoar frost at the lake. Photographer's delight! A warm wind (-3C) has taken it all away. :(
