Almost two decades ago, a little movie called Forrest Gump opened with a scene in which a feather floated down from a church steeple to Forrest's lap while he was sitting on a bench in one of Savannah's beautiful town squares (Chippewa Square, to be precise). This is the church that was featured in the opening scene.

No wonder the Lions are doomed!! Ford bought the Detroit Lions on the same day Kennedy was assassinated! They were doomed from the begining.

These were some old newspapers my father saved over the years that he pulled out of his storage. I am photographing them for reference.

Life is like a box of chocolates.

Cuz the hotel internet was crapping all over my Netflix.

Two weeks ago today, I went to a chocolate outlet and bought lots of delicious chocolate. This is a box of marzipan-filled chocolates - and I would almost wish my life was a bit like this box - just until a few private things get sorted out. After that I wouldn't mind not knowing what I'm going to get :-)

Jason and I drove up the coast yesterday to photograph a couple lighthouses. The conditions were excellent.

Marshall Point Light is located near Port Clyde Maine. This is the light house that Forrest Gump ran to in the movie.

After the long bearded, title character, played by Tom Hanks, decides to run his problems away, his non-ending run does end at the Marshall Point Lighthouse. The character comprehends that he has hit the end of his eastward run when he runs up the Marshall Point Lighthouse's wooden plank and can not proceed anymore. Realizing that he can not run anymore east, he concludes to to turn around and pick up his run back west, "Run, Forrest....Run!"

Actually, Hanks did make the trip to Marshall Point for the few seconds scene. The museum has a picture with him and a local boy.

Marshall Point Light Station was established in 1832 to assist boats entering and leaving Port Clyde Harbor. The original lighthouse was a 20-foot (6.1 m) tower lit by seven lard oil lamps with 14-inch reflectors. The original tower was replaced with the present lighthouse in 1857. The lighthouse is a 31-foot (9.4 m) tall white brick tower on a granite foundation. The tower was originally lit with a 5th order Fresnel lens. A raised wooden walkway connects the tower to land.[Wikipedia]

This is where Forrest Gump stopped his cross country running.

[Pleasure Island was primarily a nighttime entertainment complex with two comedy clubs and four dance clubs. These clubs closed permanently on September 27, 2008. New shops and restaurants were planned to open to replace the closed clubs, but the economic recession of 2009 delayed plans. Only one new restaurant has opened to date.

While the Village/Marketplace and West Side have always been free to enter, Pleasure Island required the purchase of admission and was closed during the day. Beginning in summer 2004, Pleasure Island became free to enter, and only those guests entering the nightclubs were charged admission.

On November 18, 2010, Walt Disney World Resort announced a project named Hyperion Wharf, which was planned to replace the Pleasure Island complex. Pleasure Island would have undergone extensive renovations and re-theming to transform into the early twentieth century wharf-themed entertainment area. New shopping and dining locations would have also been added. In July 2011, it was announced that these plans have been delayed. These plans were later cancelled in favor of Disney Springs. Construction began in April 2013 on Disney Springs, a complete remake of the section, which will be completed by 2016.]
