For lunch, IB/CAS had a van that picked us up and drove us to the Ecological Garden Restaurant. A restaurant set up
in a greenhouse. Big tanks of sea creatures (that were also then on the menu). Had about 15 courses, let's see:
- fried potatos and onions
- mushroom chicken soup
- ginko fruit salad
- regular salad
- whole Chinese sturgeon
- dried fish
- meat platter
- noodles with buns
- flour noodles with choice of sauce
- "instant tofu" (made before our eyes! soy milk mixed with dry ice)
- I'm sure I'm missing some things!

For some reason, yesterday my flickr views went from the usual 200-400 to just over 3,000, spread across loads of my photos - not just loads of views of one particular one - and without any of them being on Explore. Very odd! Any ideas why? Might be a fault with flickr and not actually reflect real views.
Here are two elderly women preparing to go to the early morning market the next morning. They sell roots and herbs that they grow them self and get from family and friends. I know one of them and she says she does not need to sell at the market but she still does because its a good way to meet and interact with people. I think it is a good thing to sell some things when you are old even tough its not many things but it gives you a reason to wake up in the morning and you have some things to aim at each day. For some old people it can be hard to stop working because they are used to the daily routine.
On this photo I did some extra post work that I usually don't do but I just thought it would fit well for this photo. I started in camera raw like always but I also added some blur in photoshop, not much but just enough so you look directly at them. I used the same way as when you make miniature effect like in so many time laps videos.

For my project, I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and try to photograph something very new. The inspiration for this project came from myself just doing the dishes at home. There was some milk in a cup, that I poured into the sink. The way that the milk dispersed in the water created such interesting shapes and designs. I wanted to try and photograph something similar. So, what I ended up doing was using food coloring in water. This was way more difficult then I thought it would be, because out of every 30 photos I took, only one of them was actually good. The food coloring was interesting to work with as well because it was completely unpredictable. However, that was also what made it so beautiful. There were challenges with this shoot such as, trying to focus the camera on the food coloring and creating a simple background. However, I am very pleased with how this photo series turned out.
CLOSUP, the Ford School's Center for Local, State, & Urban Policy, held a discussion about the findings from the Michigan Public Policy Survey (MPPS), which asked leaders from 1,329 of Michigan's local governments to report on the future of public services in their jurisdictions in the aftermath of the Great Recession. The survey concluded that a majority of Michigan's local leaders think our system of funding local governments is broken. CLOSUP Director Barry Rabe, Program Manager Thomas Ivacko, and Project Manager Debra Horner presented on the survey findings and the solutions suggested by these leaders.
This event is part of the year-long celebration of President Ford's Centennial, honoring a citizen, public servant, and leader.

So I've basically wanted to do a Hunger Games themed picture for a while now, and I had just bought that dress a little bit before my birthday, it's light blue. When I wore it for my birthday dinner with a ton of gold jewelry, I was thinking about how I wanted to take a picture with it and rock the side braid because it looks movie Katniss :)
I personally loved the movie, it's one of the only book to movie's I've liked for quite some time now... but when you think about the story line- book or movie.... it's quite disturbing. I couldn't help but feel my heart get wrenched out multiple times in both- it doesn't matter, the message is clear.
This picture has so many flaws in it I can't even count. I really wanted this to be a good picture.... tomorrows another day. Another try.
Oh and if you haven't listened to Taylor Swift "Eye's Open" song on the Hunger Games soundtrack, go listen. It's beautiful and the title for this picture is directly from the song :)
Our little girl had half an Avocado with dinner, and as you can see, she made an incredible mess. She had it in her hair, all over her face, and even in her ears!
Lying, thinking
Last night
How to find my soul a home
Where water is not thirsty
And bread loaf is not stone
I came up with one thing
And I don't believe I'm wrong
That nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.
Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.
There are some millionaires
With money they can't use
Their wives run round like banshees
Their children sing the blues
They've got expensive doctors
To cure their hearts of stone.
But nobody
No, nobody
Can make it out here alone.
Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.
Now if you listen closely
I'll tell you what I know
Storm clouds are gathering
The wind is gonna blow
The race of man is suffering
And I can hear the moan,
'Cause nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.
Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Michael wasn't of my generation .... but I am still saddened by his early passing ... how can one not be saddened by such a young life gone ... gone ... he was a brilliant musician, artist, innovator, perfectionist, talented beyond ... he set so many standards in the world of music.
Michael was adored and loved by millions around the world ... but he was so, so very lonely. I don't think he ever found what he was really looking for ... in this world. Hopefully he has now. His music will live on for many years and will be listened to by generations to come.
Michael, may you now find the peace and love you so desperately wanted and needed in your life. You will be so dearly missed.
These are especially for a dear Flickr friend of mine who is going through a very difficult time after losing her Dad suddenly at Christmas. I hope these brighten your day a little Christine and let you know that you are often in my thoughts.xxx
The community came together for a BIG party celebrating the museum’s 100th Birthday Year! We shut down 24th Street in front of the museum, until a little rain brought the party inside.
We enjoyed live performances by Mu Performing Arts, Dérobé Dance Band, The Bazillions, Brass Messengers, The Golden Bubbles, Duniya Drum and Dance, Children's Theatre Company, Minnesota Orchestra, and Minnesota Opera.
We made a collaborative balloon sculpture, party hats, and birthday-wish strings, plus we painted art cars then made soccer scarves with Minnesota United FC. Mall of America stopped by with their pop-up prize truck, too!
We snacked on goodies from The Sioux Chef’s new Tatanka Truck, Mik Mart Ice Cream, and TOT BOSS.
The Birthday Block Party was presented by Target.

On June 17, 2011, Hardee's employees in Huntsville, AL (owned and operated by Paradigm, a Hardee's franchisee) fed volunteers who were working on CPL. William's home during a 3-day build brigade. They also provided food at and attended the official key ceremony on June 18.
Army CPL Jeffery Williams was on his first deployment when he was paralyzed from the chest down in an explosion in Iraq in May 2004. While on a mission with the Marines, CPL Williams’ platoon was attacked when an IED slammed into the HUMMVEE he was riding in, killing two of his battle buddies and severely injuring him and a fellow soldier. Transported to a local hospital, then airlifted to Landstuhl, Germany, CPL Williams was later flown to Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He also received treatment at the Augusta VA spending a combined total of a year in the hospital.

ROME - Searching for the truth in Emperor Caligula's gardens in Rome. 60 MINUTES / CBS NEWS, NEW YORK & ROME [Video & Foto] (21 Nov. 2021).
When workers began excavating a new parking garage in Rome, they discovered what archeologists say was once Emperor Caligula's "pleasure gardens." Anderson Cooper reports on the find and the scholarly re-examination of Caligula's legacy.
When workers broke ground on an underground parking lot in the heart of Rome 15 years ago, they had no idea what their backhoes were about to unearth. The site turned out to be what Italian archeologists believe was once "the pleasure gardens" of the Roman emperor, Caligula - where some 2,000 years ago all sorts of lavish parties, royal intrigue, and debauched behavior likely took place. Caligula became the third emperor of Rome in A.D. 37 and he reigned for barely four years. He's been portrayed in history as one of the most deranged and despicable Roman emperors ever to rule. But for years scholars have been re-examining parts of Caligula's story to see if history has it right. Could we discover some new fragments of truth in Caligula's Gardens? We were more than happy to go to Rome, to find out.
The temples and palaces of ancient Rome may have crumbled long ago, but the legend of one of its oddest emperors lives on.
Archeology can help pin down the past, but in a city full of amazing ruins not much directly linked to Caligula had been discovered - that is until 2006.
When a pension fund for Italian doctors called Enpam started digging an underground parking garage for its new office building in the Esquilino neighborhood of Rome.
In ancient times this was one of a number of tranquil garden estates located about ten minutes by carriage from the bustling Roman forum. Recreations from Rome's superintendent of antiquities give some sense of the sprawling grounds and buildings enjoyed by emperors and their guests for about four centuries.
It took archeologists nine years to carefully recover more than a million pieces of the past, while an underground parking garage and modern building was built around them.
Everything found was taken to a large warehouse, where it was closely analyzed, logged into a database and -- when possible -- painstakingly restored. The office building's completed now and last month Rome's newest archeological site, the Nympheum Museum, opened in the basement, preserving some of the excavation, and suggesting what a lush and lavish place this once was. It contains thousands of items from the 2nd century B.C. through the 5th century A.D., like this drinking glass that somehow survived largely intact for 1900 years.

Let me introduce you my new outfit made with reverie for Alicia. She want something around my Little Red Riding Hood... So I plan to make a new variation of this theme, with a lot of assorted machine embroideries by combining some designs.
This set include a dress, a corseted over-dress, removable puffed sleeves, a jacket, a petticoat and socks.
Here, you can see:
- The petticoat made of cotton muslin edged and adorned by airy french lace and red ribbon.
- The dress made of antique white Dimity cotton fabric. All edges were trimmed with small floral embroidery and the front buttonholes band is enhanced with lace and gold metal tiny beads.
- The apron made of antique lace lined with cotton muslin, also trimmed with tiny flowers on a scalloped spring green ribbon. A row of teal Miyuki beads highlights the top of the waistband.
- Removable puffed sleeves made of cotton batiste.

Her name is "My Alice".
I used a FBL Ambrosial Blythe with a Jenna scalp I bought especially to become Alice.

For February's Friday Late, visitors were invited to consider the effects of seeing and being seen, of watching and being watched. Visitors found out how optical illusions can make our eyes deceive us and learned how to escape the ever-watchful surveillance camera. A programme of films challenged the lens through which we see the world and tours charted miniature paintings attempting to capture the window of the soul. Games were played questioning the digital gaze and a new dance commission asked: can there be an ‘I’ without the eye of a beholder?
