Peter Lenzo and Andy Nasisse Go Face-to-Face in Pewabic Pottery

Exhibition

New Exhibition is free and open to the public

DETROIT, (Sept. 1, 2009) - On Sept. 11, Pewabic Pottery

will host the opening reception for the

contemporary exhibit Peter Lenzo and Andy Nasisse: on the Edge between

Whimsy and Fear from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition features the ceramic

work of Peter Lenzo and Andy Nasisse. The exhibition will continue

exclusively at Pewabic Pottery through Nov. 1.

"Pewabic Pottery is pleased to bring this exhibit to the Detroit

community," said Executive Director, Terese Ireland. "This is a great

opportunity for students and art lovers to experience a free

contemporary exhibit."

Lenzo and Nasisse use the human form and face as primary images in their

work, and are influenced and inspired by southern folk traditions, but

with very different outcomes. Visitors will also be able to see a

digital slide show of effigy vessels in various media from cultures

around the world, which are vessels in the form of people and animals

that have been found throughout history.

"This dramatic exhibition will highlight two artists whose work,

although very different, demonstrates, in part, the long-standing

relationship between modern art and outsider or folk art," said Tara

Robinson, curator of contemporary ceramics at Pewabic Pottery.

Peter Lenzo, a Wayne State University graduate and former professor at

the University of South Carolina creates sculpture pieces connected to

the 19th century southern folk tradition of face jugs and memory pots.

Visitors will learn more about this tradition throughout the exhibition.

The small found ceramics and other objects that decorate the heads are

of symbolic importance to him. Lenzo's art represents his life, memories

and feelings and reflects his family and the debilitating effects of the

epileptic seizures he experiences as a result of a 1981 car accident.

Andy Nasisse, an emeritus professor of ceramics at the University of

Georgia, makes fantastical creatures, inspired in part by his long study

of contemporary southern folk or outsider art. Nasisse has written

extensively regarding this topic and some of his publications will be on

display as part of the exhibition.

Pewabic Pottery is a non-profit arts and cultural organization and

National Historic Landmark dedicated to ceramic education and advancing

contemporary ceramic arts while honoring Arts & Crafts ideals.

Pewabic Pottery is open to the public year round and offers classes,

workshops, lectures and tours to children and adults. Pewabic continues

to create tile for architectural and offers galleries that showcase more

than 70 ceramic artists and a museum store for purchasing handmade

Pewabic items. Visitors are welcome, free of charge, during regular

business hours Monday - Saturday from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. and Sunday from

noon to 4 p.m. To learn more about Pewabic Pottery call (313) 822-0954

or visit our website at www.pewabic.org .

For all the challenges it faced, Community Bridge became a reality. Thousands of people across the community helped create a complex, richly layered artwork that drew more national attention with each passing month during its creation. Two common themes running through the community's ideas that are reflected in this gate are 1) links or interconnnections and 2) circles. The linked circle pattern in the gate represents the interconnected and interdependent nature of a family, a community, a nation, or an ecosystem, each of which is really nothing more than a network of relationships. In this network, each connection, however small, is an integral part of the whole.

The title of this piece refers not to the gate itself but to the plain wooden door visible behind it. This inner door is not easy to see at first (and probably is not visible on your monitor). A key of interlaced circles is offered to the right of the gate. The key to accessing the inner door is the recognition that we are all connected, a notion made clear by the community's ideas.

my baby recently lost 3 pounds...which isn't a good thing for babies. His pediatrician was also worried. After a week of worrying that he might have serious health problems, it turns out that he just wasn't getting enough to eat....which is easy to fix. But there are too many babies and kids who are sick and don't have easy fixes...and my heart has been aching for them and their families. I'm so so grateful for my kids health and i so badly wish that i could cure all babies and kids from disease and sickness.

The Coffin was followed by The King, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Sussex, The Duke of York, The Earl of Wessex, The Princess Royal, Mr Peter Phillips, The Duke of Gloucester, The Earl of Snowdon and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence.

Other Members of the Royal Family travelled separately.

The King and The Queen Consort, The Prince and Princess of Wales, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, The Duke of York with Princess Beatrice, Mrs. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Princess Eugenie, Mrs. Jack Brooksbank and Mr. Jack Brooksbank, The Earl and Countess of Wessex with The Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor and Viscount Severn, The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, Mr. Peter Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Tindall, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, The Duke of Kent, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, Princess Alexandra, the Hon. Lady Ogilvy and other Members of the Royal Family were received at the North Door of Westminster Hall by the Lord Great Chamberlain, the Lord Speaker and the Speaker.

The King and The Queen Consort and other Members of the Royal Family attended a Service for the Reception of the Coffin conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Dean of Westminster (the Very Reverend Dr. David Hoyle).

A Guard of Honour, found by The King's Guard with the State Colour, was formed up in front of Buckingham Palace.

A Guard of Honour found by the Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force, with the Band of the Royal Marines was formed up in Parliament Square.

His Majesty's Body Guard of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms and The King's Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard were on duty in the Palace of Westminster.

From Household Division website

At the stroke of 2:22pm this afternoon, Her Majesty The Queen’s coffin was carried in procession on a gun carriage of The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall, where she will lie in state for four days ahead of her State Funeral on Monday 19 September 2022.

Before the procession set off, dismounted detachments of The Life Guards and The Blues and Royals of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment formed up on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace, as a Guard of Honour formed from troops of 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards, with its State Colour draped, waited outside in the Queen’s Gardens.

The carriage, known as the George Gun Carriage and which carried King George VI’s coffin, was positioned in the Buckingham Palace Quadrangle with an escort party and a bearer party formed by The Queen’s Company 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards.

As the Commanding Officer of the Household Division, Major General Chris Ghika and his staff took up their positions in front of the gun carriage, the bearer party carried Her Majesty’s coffin from within Buckingham Palace to be placed on the gun carriage.

Leaving Buckingham Palace for the last time

At 2:22pm on the dot, guns were fired from Hyde Park by The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery - one round every minute for the duration of the procession, meaning 38 rounds were fired. Simultaneously, Garrison Sergeant Major, Headquarters London District, WO1 Andrew Stokes, stepped off the procession.

Leading the procession out of Buckingham Palace and along The Mall was the dismounted detachment of The Life Guards of the Household Cavalry of more than 50 soldiers.

Following them were four key personnel: Silver Stick in Waiting Colonel Mark Berry (former Life Guards); Field Officer in Brigade Waiting, Lieutenant Colonel Gareth Light, Irish Guards; Brigade Major Household Division, Lieutenant Colonel James Shaw, Grenadier Guards and Aide-de-Camp to Major General Commanding the Household Division, Captain Jamie Roy.

Flanking the gun carriage were pall bearers, who had all been service equerries to The Queen, and the escort party and the bearer party drawn from The Queen’s Company, 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards.

Bringing up the rear of the procession, following His Majesty The King and members of the Royal Family, was a Blues and Royals marching detachment from The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment.

The procession marched at a pace of 75 steps per minute, which is specifically reserved for funerals and ensures it keeps time with the slow pace of the gun carriage. Ordinarily troops would either do a slow march of 60 beats per minute, or a quick march of 110 beats per minute.

Arrival at Westminster Hall in the grounds of the Palace of Westminster

As Her Majesty arrived in Westminster, the coffin was carried in procession by a bearer party of The Queen’s Company, 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards from the gun carriage and placed on a raised platform, known as a catafalque, in Westminster Hall.

After a short service, the captain of The Queen’s Company 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, assisted by a senior sergeant, laid The Queen’s Company Colour, the royal standard of the regiment, on the steps of the catafalque at the south end.

Lying In State and the Vigil

A continuous vigil will be kept by His Majesty’s Body Guard of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms, assisted at times by The King’s Body Guard for Scotland (The Royal Company of Archers), The King’s Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard, assisted by The Body of Yeomen Warders of HM Tower of London, and by units of the Household Division.

Those units will include: The Household Cavalry, the Grenadier Guards, the Coldstream Guards, the Scots Guards, the Irish Guards and the Welsh Guards. Each period of 24 hours will be divided into four watches. Except for the first and last, each of the 20 watches will last for 6 hours. Within each watch, a Vigil will last for 20 minutes.

More than 320 military personnel from all three services took part in this ceremonial activity, including 170 military personnel from The Household Division in the procession.

The Gun Carriage

The gun carriage is known as the George Gun Carriage and carried King George VI’s coffin from Sandringham Church to Wolferton Station in February 1952. It was also used in the funeral of The Queen Mother in 2002.

Royal Salutes

The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery has six 13-pounder quick-fire guns, built between 1913 and 1918, all of which have seen active service in the First and Second World Wars. They are used regularly for royal salutes in Hyde Park, Green Park or Windsor Great Park for State Occasions and to mark royal anniversaries and royal birthdays. Each gun and limber weighs 1.5 tons and, with the team, is approximately 54 feet long.

Spread across 900 acres this hospital was used for psychiatric rehabilitation. Built in 1892, it included 58 buildings and had roughly 2,200 patients.

I am pleased to announce you the creation of a new project for Tina who wanted something around a tutu dress set... So I plan to make a real pancake tutu with a gradient in different tulle overlays, inspired by the romantic ballet, where the spirit of Giselle, dancing with her lover, comes to save him from the death.

This set include seven pieces...

- A blouse, fully lined, sewn in a cotton batiste dyed with bright pink color, edged with lace on the bottom sleeves and with pale pink rayon cord around de neckline. Embroidered roses adorn this piece witch closes in the back with beads and loops.

- A pancake tutu sewn with a gradient in different tulle overlays: gold at the top, on dotted cream, on pale pink, and ending below with mauve pink. I used the traditional technique, that is to say, with lots of layers fixed together and with a metal circle inside to maintain a certain rigidity.

- A corseted over-skirt sew in a lovely yellow-cream jacquard silk satin, fully embroidered and edged with lace and burgundy rayon cord. A fake lacing, a knotted rose on the front panel and a real lacing on the back...

- A cream pantyhose, hand painted with acrylic painting, decorated with tiny flowers and leaves rising from the ankle to the knee.

- A short cape, sewn with lace on satin with tiny embroidered roses, edged with fur and closed with a cordon ended with small pompoms. Because I couldn't make up my mind about the color, I I decide to make it reversible: pink or green depending on the mood of the day.

- Hair accessory: some millinery flowers... mounted on hair clips.

- A pair of ballerina shoes.

This set is worn by my "Nijinska" blythe doll customized by me.

I used a real factory Blythe that looks like Matryoshka Maiden and bought especially to become this ballet girl, tribute to Nijinski.

Hello, thanks for looking at my new art piece, it is a big hard paged ( lovely thick boards!) 6" x 12" in size!

The cover features a large felt tree, with a 'Once Upon A Time' Heart, and bright glass brad, with hearts as leaves, and flamingos at its foot. The words ALICE features on a faux bois background, and a large metal keyhole sits proudly on the tree themed paper backing, enticing it's Reader to peek inside ( much like Alice did!)

The whole book is binded together with rich, luxurious colourful and textured ribbons & fibres, tied to the fibres you will find tiny bells that ting on it's movement, and larger strawberry bells that chime too! A metal rabbit is hiding, and somewhere, as is a metal key! A soft plush white rabbit is hurrying his way along these fibres too ( perhaps looking for the keyhole too!)

Thats the description of the FRONT PAGE, imagine how much decor is inside, adorning each page.. well actually you dont NEED to imagine, the best way, is just to peek at all the photos !
