Voila mon petit trésor devant mes yeux ......

Five juvenile bluejays sharing some seed and nuts. We have had at least twice the normal amount of baby bluejays this year. I'm not sure why but I am enjoying their company.
It was somewhat comical and yet actually endearing to see these five Hoatzin lined up like this at a creek near the lowest part of the renowned Manu Road in Peru. The repetition serves to emphasize their unique appearance. The range of the Hoatzin encompasses the basins of the Amazon and Orinoco rivers and some tributaries in north-central South America.

one windowsill neighbourhood – stick to the rules of engagement. Pleione orchid series. Two Pleione Tongariro ‘Jackdaw’ (Pln. Versailles x Pln. pleionoides) and three Pleione Vesuvius (Pln. bulbocodioides x Pln. x confuse). Both are recognised double hybrids; Pln. Vesuvius registered in 1978 and Pln. Tongaririo registered in 1981 amongst other officially recognised by the RHS. Pleione orchids are miniature orchids with large flowers that in the wild grow on foothills and in mountain areas of East and South East countries. Common names include Peacock orchids thank to large showy flowers or Windowsill orchids due to small plant sizes. Native names include Glory of the East, Himalayan crocus, Indian crocus.
I'm not really a hot weather person. It's five more months until October when the sticky, hot, buggy, humid days will be gone. I am over the warmer weather already. I don't want to mow the lawn or garden or swat bugs or sweat anymore. I'd rather shovel snow and take long walks with the dogs. Come on winter.

The Five Boats is an office building in the inner harbor of Duisburg directly at the Buckelbrücke and the Hitachi Power Office.
The seven-storey office building, completed in 2004, was designed by the star designer Sir Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners from London, the detailed planning came from the German architects Bahl und Partner, the project was managed by Kölbl Kruse GmbH, the construction work came from Bilfinger Berger AG, the construction costs amounted to 50 million Euro. The requirement was to enable as many offices as possible to be connected to the water. Due to the oval shape of the five individual hulls and the fact that they are spread out next to each other, almost all offices have a view of the inner harbor or the city center of Duisburg. The 35 office floors all have an identical layout and are modular in structure, so that they can be used very flexibly. The technical and supply rooms are housed in the rear transverse wings, which are only six stories high. The total office space is 22,000 m². The tenant is the company health insurance company Novitas BKK.
Retail shops and restaurants are located on the ground floor on 1,500 m². There are 175 underground parking spaces in the basement.
At night, the four rear transverse wings are illuminated in different colors using LED technology and illuminate the corrugated aluminum surfaces of the hull. The total of 660 m² of lighting area was divided into twenty fields per connecting tract, whose color gradients or lighting moods can be freely programmed. The lighting concept was developed by spectral Gesellschaft für Lichttechnik mbH.

VIEW ON BLACK! :-)
I was there, and captured this event on Kodachrome film. 45 years later, it still seems like a dream. Five big Rio Grande SD45s pull a westbound merchandise train through Provo, Utah as the sun goes down on June 9, 1977. D&RGW rostered 26 of these 3600 horsepower pullers, delivered by EMD between Jan. 1967 and May 1968. Lead engine 5340 was the last unit of the series.
This tree stood on a ridge near Johnstons' five miles from the blast at one time when suddenly it and it's beautiful surroundings were obliterated in an instant. I've watched the pics turned into motion shots many times and the blocked in power released that Sunday still astounds me.
Alvin Harp mentioned recently that he felt a sadness when his favorite pics fell off the front page and my first thought was Saint Helens. Tonia and I were going to go down there tonight and get some good light in the morning but my 14 hour day at work put the kibosh on that so in the meantime, take a moment and look at this place, I hope that I'm not alone in my fascination. :-)

Take five small units, assemble them and they form a larger unit.
You could also make a flower-shape of this phase, by folding the longer 'arms' backwards.
The unit is two-tone, so it's nice to reverse the colors and make two final versions, you'll see them tomorrow ;-))
The colors are darker, it was a clouded gray day.
I always wonder when I see these how many there will be the next day, yet somehow the species seems to survive. It's getting harder though in public parks where a significant number of dog owners don't bother to keep control so as to protect wildlife. And the parks themselves are more crowded now as the human population explodes in this country, and newcomers are not necessarily aware of how we expect people to care for nature.
