this is my second upload from a 3-way "trifecta" film-swap, across 3 continents alongside two top analogue photographers: hodachrome from japan and graziella ines from the u.s...
we have been sending 3 rolls of film around the globe, each shooting a layer on every frame.. the second of these rolls has now been finished, developed and processed..
for this image, hodaka shot the upper half of the frame only (gujo hachiman castle, gifu - masking the lower with a "splitzer"), i shot the lower half of the frame only (dusk overlooking the city of florence in italy - masking the upper half with a "splitzer") and finally graziella shot the full frame (the 405 freeway in los angeles at night).. again, the three layers seem to blend really smoothly here..

> 50mm f/1.8 x 40mm f/1.7
> Kodak Max Versatility 400 expired
from the start of this year, i have been planning a 3-way "trifecta" film-swap, across 3 continents with two top analogue photographers: hodachrome from japan and graziella ines from the u.s...
since then, we have been sending 3 rolls of film around the globe, and this is my second upload (more in comments below).. hodaka shot the national highway at night, at gifu, and graziella's layer is less clear, but we see some structures on the right, and i shot the one of the old support pillars of the ruined west pier on brighton beach..

From new self-filmswap series. For this shot I featured portrait with fireworks. Shot fireworks first (with SLR) then set the film into LC-A and started shooting portrait. Appeared clear fireworks on the silhouette part of the portrait shot.

A Yorkshire film swap with Bradford based photographer Danny Marsh.
First exposure by Danny in Bradford and second exposure by me whilst on holiday in the Lake District.

From "filmsoup-swap" project with Toby Mason (Fotobes). First, he shot the artwork for the Brighton Festival 2013. And then he posted the film to Japan and I shot cosmos flowers in a small cosmos garden, Gifu. After shooting a roll I put the dissolved neutral detergent onto all around the film in a darkroom. Then rewind the film and I heated the canister in boiled water for 5 minutes. After I dried the film I got it developed. Came out psychedelic image. This is one of my favourites from the film swap with Anke Schroeder. The first exposure is by Anke, and I really love her pastel piece; it has a beautiful, blue textured palette, which gives depth. It makes it look like the cars from the second exposure are travelling through a tunnel. Best of all, we didn't coordinate any of our double exposures, so this was a totally random mix, which I think worked really well and was surprising at the same time.
Film swap project made by me and Nico Westlicht from Netherlands. Photos were exposed both in Netherlands by Nico and in Vietnam by me.

this is an image from a recent filmswap with the amazingly talented gocchin - one of my favourite lomographers, who lives in japan.. he's not on flickr, but prepare to be amazed by his lomohome on the lomography site.. for this, gocchin shot a koi carp in a small pond and I shot the remaining support pillars of brighton's west pier, on a foggy afternoon..

Helen and I swapped rolls of film that we each exposed, and then the other exposed a second image on top the film, running it a second time through the camera. Neither of us knew what the other had done for the first layer. The resulting combination image is an unplanned serendipitous coincidence. Film used was Ilford XP2 Super.

this is my shot from a recent film-swap, for which the only hints of a double are the little lights in the cycle path.. with completely random film-swaps, complementary exposure can be an issue.. more successful doubles to follow soon!

I love how in this one the bokeh light spots complement the round form of the plants.

2 people
+ 2 cameras
+ 1 roll of film
= FILM SWAP!
After I said here on Flickr that I'd like to try a film swap, a few people responded and we decided to collaborate. The first film swap was with Yutaka/Prestonbot. Each of us shot a roll of film and then sent it to the other (to Canada or to Germany). Luckily enough, both film rolls made it to their transatlanitc destination without any harm, and the results are awesome I think.
These here are some of my favourites.

Olympus XA2 both times. Expired Fuji Astia 100. First run by me in Shoreham, second run by Mike in Brighton. This is from the Asda scan - Mike is clever and has re-scanned them, check his stream to see the difference:0)

2nd photo from filmswap project with a great photographer fotobes. We have met in UK and tried a "quick" filmswap during my stay. His shot is railings on Brighton's Palace Pier (double exposed with splitzer). My shot is Big Ben (The Palace of Westminster) and hibiscus near the Westminster Bridge (double exposed with splitzer). Exposed four times on this photo :)

Another film swap project made by me and Xia Ba Chao from Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam. He shot the whole roll of films in Ho Chi Minh then rewound the films and sent it to me. I carried the roll to other places such as Nha Trang, Đà Lạt, Singapore and Malacca and shot on the sencond layer on them.
