YOKOSUKA, Japan (June 29, 2017) – Participants from Commander, Navy Region Japan Fire and Emergency Services, NCTS Far East and Fleet Activities (FLEACT) Yokosuka Fleet and Family Support Center volunteer at the Shinwa-Hashirimizu nursing home in Yokosuka. The community relations activity featured games and entertainment from the Seventh Fleet Band. FLEACT Yokosuka provides, maintains, and operates base facilities and services in support of 7th Fleet's forward-deployed naval forces, 71 tenant commands, and more than 26,000 military and civilian personnel. Marines with Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment (BLT 1/6), 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (24th MEU), NATO International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), utilize the Field Food Service Center (FFSC) by preparing, serving, and consuming food while away from a stationary chow hall. The FFSC is able to be set up and taken down in about two hours with around 16 Marines; this allows Marines to get hot food no matter where they are while performing missions in support of NATO. Naval Air Facility Misawa's Family Readiness Group hosted an excellent Chili Cook-Off!
Congratulations to Diana Abott for her prize-winning chili and special thanks to all the FRG members who donate their personal time to make our lives better!
Family Readiness Groups (FRGs) are an integral part of a support service network that bundles key support services such as ombudsmen, Fleet and Family Support Centers (FFSCs), chaplains, school liaison officers and child development centers at the command level. These services provide coordinated support to service members and their families.
FRGs also prepare members for deployments and homecoming; provide family support during deployments; help families adjust to challenges and to support one another in times of personal, unit or area crises; welcome/mentor members who are new to the Navy lifestyle; and coordinate social events, such as holiday celebrations.
