It was an impulsive decision yesterday to accompany JJ to the Victorious Festival in Portsmouth! He bought his tickets ages ago, but as he was going alone on Sunday, I asked if I could come along too!
This is the first time I've been to a festival of this kind, and it was very exciting!
The best known acts on Sunday were Texas, Ray Davies (of the Kinks), Basement Jaxx, Ella Eyre and We are Scientists. Here are a few of my 'best' shots of Sharleen Spiteri!
The Hindu festival of Holi, also called the Festival of Colors, is celebrated with much enthusiasm in the month of Phalgun, which usually corresponds to the month of March. It marks the arrival of spring and the bright colors represent energy, life, and joy.
This exuberant festival is associated with the immortal love of Lord Krishna and Radha, and hence, Holi is spread over 16 days in Nandgaon-Barsana-Goverdhan-Vrindavan [India] as well as Mathura - the cities with which Lord Krishna shared a deep affiliation. Apart from the usual fun with coloured powder and water, Holi is marked by vibrant processions which are accompanied by folk songs, dances and a general sense of abandoned vitality.
A free show at the Chenla Theater, Phnom Penh
This was quite spectacular! Dancers from france, Cambodia and Laos put on perhaps one of the best dance performances i have seen. Im not a theater goer and certainly don't know much about classical dance but I will try and explain. The first performance looked kind of classical khmer combined with intense drumming, the dancers were truly amazing at what they did. Then the second performance, try to imagine synchronized break dancing to classical music, truly exceptional stuff. To finish, some street kids came on stage and continued with some quite acrobatic breaking, all this for free!
This was the first show of it's kind, there are further shows planned, the next being in June. For a taster of the action there will be 8 acts on diamond island this evening.
