We would like to welcome you to our first ever Moon Festival! It’s celebrated once a year, and is time for family and friends to gather around to share moon-cake, and moon gaze!

This is an Asian themed event, inspired by the traditional Chinese Mid-autumn Moon Festival. It honors the gathering of family and friends, as well as crop harvesting. It’s also about giving thanks, and praying for a good future. We wanted to come together and share these values while also giving back to the community of SL with a fun time!

To re-create a more authentic feeling for the event, we set up stalls and small shops, which are ready to get filled with Moon Festival themed products!

There was a time when the annual Glastonbury ‘mudfest’ could be relied upon to produce a number of locomotive-hauled extra trains heading to and from Castle Cary, the nearest station to Worthy Farm. Looking back, with pleasure rather than anger, to June 2004, we find a very smart 47815 passing Berkley Marsh near Frome with a FGW extra from Paddington. 47832 was on the rear. Oasis headlined the festival that year with a performance that was widely slated by critics and fans alike. Perhaps the typically wet conditions dampened the mood somewhat but at least they didn’t have to get there by today’s austere and uncomfortable IETs…

Happy thrikkarthika to all my friends...

Thrikarthika, or Trikartika, is the festival of lights celebrated in Kerala on the Kartika Nakshatram (star) in the Malayalam month of Vrischikam (November – December). It usually falls on the full moon day in the month and on the day all the houses, streets and temples are well lit with traditional oil lamps. The festival is mainly observed in South Kerala.
