The Lights Lantern Festival is a wonderfully spiritual event in the Mojave desert just outside of Mesquite Nevada. This was my 4th year going and I think my best year. 2020 has been a stressful year but it was great to see people launch their hopes and prayers into the heavens.

Bard Music Festival 2018 - August 5 2018
This is quite a bit more than five minutes from home, but as summer music festivals go, the Bard Summerscape Festival is so close, it feels like 5 minutes.
This year we saw Anton Rubinstein's opera Demon, which was spectacular.
The building is the Fischer Music Center Hall, designed by Frank Gehry. We think it looks like a Samurai helmet.

This year’s festival in honour of the 9 emperor gods ends today, here a pic from a few years ago. Have you ever been?
For me it is one of the most bizarre and enjoyable festivals in the world. You may have seen pics from spectacular and sometimes gut-wrenching feats of self-mutilation, but this is a personal choice of some only. For most the festival is first of all a profoundly spiritual experience and an opportunity for the community to gather and have fun.
Purification of body and mind can happen through adherence to the diet and doing good deeds and being kind takes center stage. The atmosphere during the whole festival is fantastic, from the gaudy to the enchanted. Spectacular, bizarre, weird and funny scenes abound with and without piercing.

The lights are part of the Symphony of Lights which the city of Hong Kong puts on nightly.
The detail in the buildings looks pretty cool in the large size. As you may have noticed, the composition is identical to the previous photo in my photostream - I took both of these on the same night. This one is from later in the evening, the other is from dusk.

The Bedford River Festival is held biennially on the banks of the River Great Ouse. It was founded in 1978 to celebrate the completion of a navigable route, by water, between Bedford and the coast and is held over a weekend, normally in July
The festival claims to be the world's largest tulip festival, displaying over one million tulips, with attendance of over 650,000 visitors annually. Large displays of tulips are planted throughout the city, the largest of which are often in Commissioners Park on the shores of Dow's Lake, and along the Rideau Canal with 300,000 tulips planted there alone.
"It is all about getting that tulip shot."
