I managed to get one 'sans tourists'! I was struck how incredibly solid and strong these original Roman pillars are and the richness of the colours from that mineral staining...
Bathing formed part of really important social contact (and I suppose not smelling like a rotting kipper had its advantages!). The more attendants you had, massaging the most exotic oils, lotions and potions into your body, the higher your status...and if it was me - the more useless I would become at doing ANYTHING constructive midst complete languour and copious sighs! Anyway, moving on quickly before I lose my concentration...
It was here that you would receive your clients and make important business decisions, seal deals and possibly arrange a few asassinations if you could squeeze in a spare moment and a quiet corner. Meanwhile others might debate important issues (the latest result between the Christians and the Lions) or listen to philosophers aka those who liked the sound of their own voices. If you were really keen, there were nearby sports courts you could wear yourself out at before taking a sauna and a 'Turkish' massage, and then plunging yourself (foolishly in my opinion..) into another nearby pool of cold water. Many of those of higher status might go through this at least twice a day........now there's a thought!

Another aerial shot from the roof of the Venerable English College down to the streets below - layers of colour, texture, history and human stories one on top of the other. This one appealed to the voyeur in me - you can have a good uninterrupted nose of those terraces from here....scrutinised implaccably by yet another church cupola on the horizon!
VIA F450 6428 and an F9B accelerate a train out of the "subway" as they depart Toronto Union Station at Bathurst St. in July 1988. Skydome is under construction on the right.

Less of an 'astonished' tree here - more a 'contemplative' one. I'd forgotten how vast the sky seemed that evening up on 'The Downs' until I uploaded it......but my horizons have rather nicely expanded this week so it seems a fitting image really.....
I never imagined that this picture would recieve so much attention. It feels great to have created something that has an impact on other people. I have gotten quite a few messages where people have asked to know more about the picture so I thought it would be right to give some background info on the picture.
In 2006 I was on vacation in Croatia on the island of Brac. We were having a nice day on the beach walking along the coastline when I noticed this girl standing on a rock quite close to the ocean she stood there and did´nt move and she seemed so lonely. I had fallen some distance behind my girlfriend that was walking ahead of me so I only took this one photo of the girl as I walked by, I never saw her face. I rushed to catch up with my girlfriend and we had walked some distance when I looked back and the girl was still standing there.
A while ago I finally decided what I wanted to do with the photo and the end result is what you see here. I made the picture from the emotion I was getting from it. I put in the black background and the shaft of light and it just felt somehow right that way.

Just around the corner from the Suspension Bridge - more of that another time I promise! It IS actually rather a long way down, but the light this evening turned the brown tidal sludge into a glistening backdrop for some fabulous Autumn colours.
