Sunset on the Downs...there were load of words here profusely thanking everyone for the overwhelming response to this picture as my flickr-stream went bananas that evening and over the next days.... the thanks remain, but I've decided it's time to delete my amazed response. ;-) Thanks to everyone who still comes here.
Best viewed On Black, but I promise that I've started exploring other photographic subjects since then........ ;-)
Alas, Natalie was unsaved - instead she was throughly trashed by the "DeleteMe!" group. She remains my most faved, most viewed and most commented photo.

A gigantic iceberg floats out of the Ilulissat Icefjord into Disko Bay on a cold, snowy afternoon. Some icebergs calving into the bay are as big as Manhattan and remain lodged against the bottom of the seabed - 250m deep - until they have melted enough to float freely.

Water drop on white dinner plate. Discussed in the Technique group here. I entered this shot in DPChallenge's most recent free study competition and it placed 44th out of 507, and has my 3rd highest vote score.

Friday, 29 July 2005, a friend and I made the four-hour drive from Salt Lake City down to St. George, Utah.On the way there, my gas was getting low, and so I decided to play it safe and fill up so as to not cut it close. At the bottom of the exit ramp, I saw a sign that said the station was 0.7 miles away, so I proceeded. About 1/4 mile later, the sign said 7 (as in, no decimal point) miles and I was not about to drive that far off the highway. So, I stopped the car and was going to turn around when I realized the view we had. We both got out of the car and took a number of shots with the car still running, then decided we'd better get back in before wasting too much gas. I'm glad we did.
Waves bouncing off of the seawall at the south end of "Victoria Beach" in Laguna Beach, California, rebound into oncoming waves to create a beautiful and turbulent water playground.
Note on watermark: Some people have noticed the watermark changing. I have been experimenting...trying to find the most minimally intrusive version that will still prevent the image from being stolen (again). Hope this one is not too obnoxious.

A less common sight of one of the Met's armoured ARV jankels, this would being fitted with an extendable ladder on the front seen here driving around Lambeth roundabout, London.
This is similar to one I posted earler - but with a shift in the angle to get a different green/purple - purple/green contrast between drops, refractions and background bokeh. I love how you can see waterdrops on the petals of the flower seen in the waterdrops.

When I saw this girl at a beach in Thailand, I suddenly remembered how much I loved in my childhood the movies of Esther Williams.
In a split second I was back in the cinema and saw my father sitting next to me....he liked her movies too :)
Esther Williams was famous as Hollywood's mermaid, the movie star who swam her way to popularity in MGM movies. For ten years (1950-1960) she was a huge star at the box-office, and outgrossed several more famous actresses by a large margin.

I was in the front row during this explosion extravaganza.
Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. and SCARY!
I thought my face was going to melt off.
Basically, it was a huge mushroom cloud for all I could see, enveloping up, over my head and in every direction. I was thinking it was a dramatic way to go.

Crude Awakening Arises at Burning Man
...At its climax, four different containers at each corner of the tower will shoot a total of 900 gallons of jet fuel (given away by NASA as unusable for its purposes, Das Mann says) to engulf the top of the structure in a huge fireball.
Seconds later up the center of the derrick, 2,000 gallons of liquid propane in a pipeline stretching out to the derrick's right will shoot out at once through a remote-control 5-inch pneumatic ball valve. The piece's creators figure this should create a 1,000-foot-high column of flame.
The detonation of the piece will create 2.4 gigawatts of energy, which Das Mann and Cusolito say is enough to "power the entire Bay Area for one minute...
