Jaaaren geleden moet het zijn dat de bestemming "extra dienst" te zien is geweest op een Amsterdamse tram- maar ja, een ééndelige Combino zie je óók al niet elke dag.....😁

En nee: er is niets "geshopt"...

So I asked a little bit back if people were interested in seeing the un-polished Lego stuff I do. Everyone seemed interested, so I'm giving it a try. Currently I've decided I'll just post Lego related stuff on Flickr and no one else on the internet. So anything Lego related I want to share I'm going to post on Flickr till people get sick of it. :P

Also I added notes on the picture for anyone who is curious what is what.

Interested to hear you guys' opinions on this! :)

My coffee got cold on me, so I topped it off with some hot coffee from the carafe.

The ski season has been generally bad in Spain. There really has been no season in most stations. So ski touring was the only option this year. Coupled with this, the lack of snow makes a recent snowfall a gift that we cannot miss. As if it were an extra bonus to a game, we have taken advantage of the north face of the San Lorenzo in what may be the last descent of the season.

So was life in this bar during its heyday during the 49er gold rush era. One can only imagine what life was like at this place after night fall as the gold miners would stroll into the bar with their daily gold dust and drink away their sorrows and dream of hitting it big & going home in style. And of course the bar ladies trying to get them to buy them a drink & perhaps a little extra on the side. This bar opens now for one day only every year during the Humbug Day celebration. Where you too can stroll up to the bar, slam your fist down on the table and say whiskey, and put it in a dirty glass! They were tough in those days.

So what will you have partner!

Inside the Kings Saloon in North Bloomfield, California.

Last week a padded envelope showed up in the mailbox from Simmons-Boardman, publishers of Railway Age. I wasn't sure what I had until I brought the packet in and opened it up.

When I shot slides I made a practice of editing them after processing, what I determined to be the "best" slides were sequentially numbered with a black number on the mount. All other slides were filed separately as "extras". Their number corresponded to the prime shot and was written on the mount in red. As I developed as a photographer many extras were almost as good as the top cut. This allowed me to submit extras for publication while retaining at least one good shot of everything that I kept on hand for slide shows and such. At least 20 years ago I sent off 10 sheets of slides covering various subjects to Railway Age to have on hand to fill needs within the magazine. There was a cover and various interior shots used out of this batch but I hadn't thought about them for years. They're evidently cleaning out the old analogue files and thankfully sent them back to an updated address that I didn't have back then.

These "extras" have aged pretty well over the last two decades so I've digitized a number of them and I'll be sharing them here. First up, a look at the good old DM&IR, still years from becoming a CN asset the last time I looked through this slide. Class 43 locomotive No. 43208 heads towards Chelvey Bridge in North Somerset with 1V58, the 10:03 Edinburgh to Penzance service on Friday 8th July 2022. Sister locomotive No. 43304 was at the rear.

This was an unscheduled working for an XC HST. Earlier that day the HST had unexpectedly terminated at Newcastle while working 1V50, the 06:06 Edinburgh to Plymouth service. It then worked 1Z29, the 07:35 Newcastle to Edinburgh special, followed by 1V58. After arrival at Penzance the HST worked 2C80, the 22:08 service to Plymouth. All in all quite an eventful day for this hard-working train.

To get this photo I'd sacrificed a chance of a shot of 1E63, the 15:27 Plymouth to Leeds service, also an HST. That train swept past on the up road seconds later, giving me no time to re-position for a sufficiently interesting viewpoint. If 1V58 had been on time (it was running about 23 minutes late at this point) then it would have been a different story, but the unusual working naturally took priority.

Post privatisation but still in Network SouthEast livery Railtrack Plc owned Sandite/De-Icing unit 930 007 is seen waiting at Hastings to form sandite train 8Z42 13.20 to Tonbridge.

This departmental unit was one of the batch authorised for conversion at Selhurst Depot between 1977-82 from redundant 4-SUB (class 405) motor coaches. Set 007 was formed of ADB975592 (ex S10993 from set 4127) and ADB 975593 (ex S12659 from set 4604). The no.1 end ADB 975592 was the De-icing vehicle fitted with polythene lined steel tanks to prevent the tanks becoming live when de-icing fluid was being released onto the conductor rail. The no.2 coach ADB 975593 was initially empty on conversion but subsequently modified and fitted with hopper vats to carry Laponite solution (commonly known as Sandite). When laying sandite the train would be restricted to 20mph hence the class 8 headcode where as de-icer could be laid at 45mph. The units were fitted with extra shoe gear to create better contact in icy conditions and two shoes, one either side were fitted with air operated vibrating pins to dislodge any formed ice on the conductor rail rather than just frost or snow. Formed ice blobs could be a problem under overhanging structures like bridges where water could drip and freeze creating a lump on the conductor rail.

NT$59/US$1.85 for a pack of 10. These Yakults contain 3 times the amount of culture that is in the regular Yakults. I have never seen these in the States. Taste the same, just a little bit more expensive than the regular ones (regular ones are NT$55 for 10).

BTW, the regular Yakults go for US$2.50 for 5 in NYC.

I loooooove Yakults. I have been drinking a few bottles of these extra strength ones everyday. Joy.

I've looked on every map I could find and was not able to see a name associated with this lake. Since this lake is absolutely EXTRA amazing and medium in size, I think the name is fitting. All I need to do is convince Google Maps to name it as such, and there you have it.

Shot with my new DJI Mini 2, which I can't say enough about. Handles better than my Phantom 3, delivers better photos and is much easier to fly.

thick, creamy celery soup of celery, parsnip, potato, onion and fresh coriander

plenty of vegetables were used in this recipe. that's why i cooked in two saucepans. the cooked contents of both saucepans were decanted into the large preserving pan, mixed together and ladled into the boxes to freeze. much of what i buy is from the markets. yesterday at whitechapel market a bowl of 3 bunches of coriander was £1

celery and parsnip cooked in a large saucepan, then blended

potato and onion cooked in a large saucepan, then blended

both pans of vegetables including the cooking water decanted into large preserving pan

a chopped bunch of fresh coriander added

(season during this stage or season just before being plated to eat)

stirred to mix all the ingredients

finally celery soup ladled into the boxes ready for the freezer, to be eaten as and when

i add milk and/or extra virgin olive oil either in the preliminary cooking (not this time) or later when each portion is reheated ready to eat, just to keep upping the flavour :)

when reheating i add more cooked potato and blend. this restores the creamy consistency of the soup which can be lost once frozen

all cooking was done on the hob on a low heat, 2 and less, from beginning to end.

i'd heard an energy saving tip from a bbc radio 2 listener who had phoned in to a programme on rising energy costs. he had noticed it was cheaper if he cooked on the hob throughout on low rather than medium or high, making sure the lid is on the pan, apart from the occasional stir.

now i've a smart meter installed www.britishgas.co.uk/smart-home/smart-meters.html monitoring energy use i thought i'd give it a go and found it to be a good tip.

(i suppose it's a bit like driving a car: driving fast burns up the fuel, driving slow lessens fuel consumption but we reach the destination)

if i have the hob on high, the smart meter dial shoots up to the orange/red and stays there - expensive - but on low the dial remains in the green - low cost - only occasionally for a few seconds each time, going to the orange/red

it does mean i have to plan ahead to give myself time to cook in this way but i'm managing and enjoying the challenge :)

ps i'm not recommending any of these cookery adventures. they suit my taste. photographing to encourage myself to eat more healthily

www.flickr.com/groups/cooking_is_my_hobby/ helps to gather ideas and encourages me to continue with healthy eating by learning from others if you're interested in cooking, sometimes or a lot, or enjoy the cooking of others, you're always welcome ...

An extra run for CP 254 today brings CP 9758 with UP 2661 hauling near 8200 feet of auto racks eastward down the Galt sub at the 7th Concession in Puslinch. They would make the southward turn at Guelph Junction and head to Buffalo.

Feels weird to shoot my own car but its going through some changes soon so I wanted pics as it is now. I was meaning to do the whole set but I'm not liking the statics at all so a reshoot later maybe.

I must of bumped the zoom ring on the lens between exposures so editing this one was a bitch. There should be a zoom lock!!!

I caught this train above the tracks at East Cliff and then hustled down to the base of Coal Creek to get ready for a shot. Fortunately, the train was restricted to 20 MPH between Crescent and Rocky due to high winds. That gave me some extra time to climb around in the Jefferson County Open Space to try to find the best perspective possible.
