The Australian federal court recently ruled that the federal government has a duty of care to protect future generations from climate harm, and the federal government is seeking to appeal this ruling.

Extinction Rebellion staged an action at the front of Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg's electoral office to demand that the government take its commitment to protecting future generations seriously. Two activists scaled the roof and remained in place for close to six hours as police were reportedly reluctant to make any arrests. Several activists also glued on the front door entrance to the office.

Forming part of a COP26 Global Day of Action, Extinction Rebellion - who have worked with a puppet production company to create a giant, smoldering koala (name'd Blinky), representing the terror our animals are facing in the climate emergency - led a march through St Kilda's Catani Gardens. It was joined by the Red Rebel Brigade, as well as drummers and musicians.

Extinction Rebellion (abbreviated as XR) is a global environmental movement[ with the stated aim of using nonviolent civil disobedience to compel government action to avoid tipping points in the climate system, biodiversity loss, and the risk of social and ecological collapse.

Extinction Rebellion was established in the United Kingdom in May 2018 with about one hundred academics signing a call to action in support in October 2018, and launched at the end of October by Roger Hallam and Gail Bradbrook, and other activists from the campaign group Rising Up!. In November 2018, five bridges across the River Thames in London were blockaded. In April 2019, Extinction Rebellion occupied five prominent sites in central London: Piccadilly Circus, Oxford Circus, Marble Arch, Waterloo Bridge, and the area around Parliament Square.

Activists from Extinction Rebellion block traffic at Oxford Circus, in the heart of London's shopping district, and stage a fashion show "intended to disrupt the language and symbols of the fashion industry." With pink carpets laid for a catwalk, and music playing, models showed off garments made from recylable materials in a protest highlighting the wasteful and disposable nature of the fashion industry and its significant contribution to the carbon dioxide emmissions which cause global warming.

All across the world rebellions are organising to take action on climate change. The organisers hope to have more people than last time. Seeing how many people came out on Sunday evening then I would have thought a lot more people will be out during the next 2 weeks.

This is the ceremony for the start of climate action protests, taking place at Marble Arch. Starting 2 weeks of action from the 7th October.

This protest took place on the land of the Dharawal and Yuin peoples. ALWAYS WAS, ALWAYS WILL BE ABORIGINAL LAND!

Bushfires are ravaging the country, tearing down houses and destroying lives & ecosystems. While we lose our homes and loved ones, have our towns and cities choked by smoke, or sit on beaches hiding from flames, Scott Morrison is letting us burn. The climate crisis is causing endless destruction, but fossil fuel bosses rake in profits from burning our planet while politicians give them handouts.

At the same time as drought is rife across the country, here in the Illawarra mining has been allowed to expanded into our local water catchment, which will drain up to 3 billion litres a year.

We demand:

- Tax fossil fuel companies to fund bushfire relief for communities in need

- Sack Scott Morrison!

- Increase funding for our fire services

- No new coal, gas or oil

- No mining in the Greater Sydney Water Catchment
