Climate criminals - Exxon kills: Extinction Rebellion activists blockade the exit to the Exxon-Mobil fuel terminal in Yarraville, Melbourne - with two locking on to a large, concrete barrel which required nearly a dozen cops to move. The blockade resulted in two arrests.
The Exxon-Mobil fuel terminal has long been a target for Extinction Rebellion activists.

Extinction Rebellion Bike Bloc 5 was part of decentralised climate protest actions in Melbourne CBD, each up to 20 people. This meant they complied with pandemic Covid19 health directives. There were 5 different cycling blocs, at least 3 different intersection blocs, and an art installation bloc at Parliament House steps.
Protest is an important part of democracy, even during a pandemic, and can be done without the infection transmission risk of large rallies and marches.
Extinction Rebellion stage 2 weeks of protests in London (and cities around the world) to force the government to tell the truth about the threats from climate change and biodiversity loss and declare an emergency, to commit to acting on it and to call a citizens assembly to assess how best to respond. Throughout, the protests were peaceful and good natured, with non-violent direct action a core tactic of Extinction Rebellion. Nonetheless by 19/10/19 the police reported that 1,700+ people had been arrested, many for obstructing the highway (eg lock-ons while lying in the road). As XR publicly say, their strategy aims at maximizing arrests to gain publicity and raise the isse of climate change in the media and public consciousness. Policing was much heavier compared to the April "rebellion", with pre-emptive arrests and raids on storage facilities. On 14/10/19 police expanded an order banning XR protests to include the whole of London. This ban has been widely criticised and may be subject to judicial review.

All across the world rebellions are organising to take action on climate change. The organisers hope to have more people than last time. Seeing how many people came out on Sunday evening then I would have thought a lot more people will be out during the next 2 weeks.
This is the ceremony for the start of climate action protests, taking place at Marble Arch. Starting 2 weeks of action from the 7th October.
Several hundred Extinction Rebellion activists perform a dramatic protest in Whitehall, London - the seat of government - pouring gallons of fake blood outside the Prime Minister's residence in Downing Street after a solemn ceremony and calls for politicians to take seriously the threats posed by global warming and biodiversity loss to the planet. The blood symbolized that of the children lost through unabated climate change.
A smaller group later headed to Oxford Circus - the heart of London's shopping district - and performed some hilarious songs in cacophonous style before causing traffic diversions by blocking the roads.

On October 7, world-wide, a group calling itself Extinction Rebellion congregated to bring attention to the climate crisis by disrupting traffic. The idea was to block a bridge during rush-hour.
The Extinction Rebellion people in Calgary were very polite during their take over of the Louise Bridge near Kensington. Most of the time they stood in crosswalks with their signs and banners when drivers waited at red lights. They were almost entertaining with one guy dressed as The Joker and another guy dancing with a hula hoop. Occasionally they followed the XR program and stopped traffic during green lights but then some of them went car-to-car offering Timbits during their disruption.
The police were there mostly in an observational capacity, watching that everyone stayed civil. One officer took photos of protesters. But he also photos of drivers who edged too closely to the demonstrators or seemed overly aggressive with their car horns. And there were a few. One pedestrian shouted at them that there was no climate crisis. An old lady asked me what was going on. When I told her it was to draw attention to climate change she scowled and asked, "During rush hour?!"

On the eve of the "Autumn Uprising" police raided an Extinction Rebellion storage space and seized tons of supplies, including many pink pillows. The return of the subversive pillows on the next day, seen here, drew huge cheers from the assembled crowd.
