The acceptable face of Matchbox generic castings is their Express Delivery step van though perhaps not its plastic construction! Penny pinching the brand to oblivion but at least the casting is crisp and nicely set off with those chrome disc wheels. Van models really need to feature more prominantely in the Matchbox line up, the promotional liveries alone would make it worth their while. This one came from Poundland who still have some of this pretty old batch on their pegs in U.S. long cards.

Mint and boxed.

Although i'm not a big fan of either plastic or deliberately generic models, i can't really find much fault with the range of Matchbox Express delivery vans or Express P500 as they are now branded. The styling is very contemporary in a U.S. stepvan kind of way with nice detailing. The livery on this although ficticious also looks pretty realistic along with my favourite style of Matchbox chrome disc wheels. This appears to be the latest version which I bought recently. Mint and boxed.

We had to pop over to Ilkeston in Derbyshire the other day to pick up a parcel from City Link. Not the easiest place to find as it's hidden away at the back of an industrial estate in the Town. Anyway, I took this shot with Flickrite Woolfie Hills in mind, as Woolfie has an in-depth knowledge of panel vans and the delivery industry, and thought that he might like it.

A great casting from Matchbox which lends itself well to all manner of different colours and liveries. This one is part of a 5 vehicle emergency set. Mint and boxed.

Although generic I have in the past liked this casting but this latest "Express Delivery" liveried version looks awful and feels very cheap. Come on Matchbox what is going on! Part of a 5 vehicle set bought recently. Mint and boxed.

Remarks/comments:

Yes... I am Canadian.

I've been here in the States since July of 1965. Permanent resident. Valid green card. I speak the language and have acclimated quite nicely into American culture. OK... coming from your neighbor to the north... it hasn't exactly been rocket science.

But THESE days... getting an new passport (as a Canadian living outside of Canada) IS something akin to rocket science! Wow! Rigorous photo specifications... guarantor... fees submitted in Canadian funds (find a US bank that will do THAT!)... and the suspense... the wait...

And... it's all over! My friendly DHL man handed this to me today – 12 days earlier than expected! All approved... and in my hands. Ready for my use on an upcoming trip to visit my parents in Medicine Hat, Alberta.

Not bad... eh?

I couldn't resist getting another one of these K.Callahan's liveried Express Delivery vans. Although generic, it has a realistic look to it of a typical U.S. stepvan with square no nonsense styling and large loading capacity, probably Grumman based. Mint and boxed.

Ok, I know its plastic and generic but there's definately a realistic appeal to the Express Delivery casting, especially in this recent yellow K Callahan's livery. I bought my original example from Morrisons but now they have appeared en masse in my local Pound shops so thought i'd buy a few more. Diecast vans at this end of the market are few and far between so one has to get them whilst they are available. The square styling and chrome disc wheels only add to its appeal. Mint and boxed.

I've now very much got used to the all plastic content of the Matchbox Express Delivery casting and its popularity doesn't seem to be waning as its still very much part of the line up with very regular colour updates. For a generic model it does have a realistic look to it and looks great with the white chrome disc wheels. This Trinidad Medical Response Unit version appears to be the most recent and is currently available in a five vehicle set which ASDA had quite a lot of in the run up to Christmas. Mint and boxed.

These vans look so familiar but are apparently generic. A really great shape which lends itself well to different colours and liveries. This is an earlier version with nicer detailing and wheels. Mint and boxed.
